Montserrat is a hidden gem in the Caribbean and Villa Arawak is set in half an acre of beautiful verdant grounds being situated on the picturesque wooded slopes leading down into the Old Towne, Olveston and Woodlands areas of the west coast of Montserrat. Arawak is situated within walking distance of Salem, being the local main village, providing local bars, dining 'Gourmet Gardens', nightlife 'Gary Mores 'Wide Awake Bar' and churches. Illuminated tennis courts are available close by together with the local rum bars, police station (for your driving licence) and of course Montserrat's main cricket pitch. The latter often provides international cricket events or local ceremonies. All are within easy, and relatively flat, walking distance of the villa. Arawak is one of only a few villas along Bishop's View Road, all of which command stunning views of Iles Bay, Soufriere Hills and of course the blue waters of the Caribbean sea beyond.

Further Details for the villa in Montserrat
Diving and the outdoors at its best Lying in the Tropics and in the Trade Wind belt, the heat is tempered by the cooling effect of the other, temperatures rarely rise above 85F or drop below 70F. The driest part of the year is generally from February to July. The western or leeward coast offers a number of attractive bays with black and white sand allowing safe swimming in crystal clear waters with abundant snorkeling opportunities. Guests can lounge on the beach un-harassed by vendors, masseurs, or other beach goers for that matter. Green Monkey Inn & Dive Shop in Little Bay provides a very friendly service. Excellent facilities, boats for hire, dive canoes and a local bar - what more can you ask for? A short canoe dive to Rendezvous Bluff provides a wonderful variety of fish, octopus and stunning coral life - virtually unsurpassed. Troy the owner offers dive locations as far a field as Redonda. So be it a beach dive in Woodlands, or a boat dive off Plymouth, Montserrat has some of the best the Caribbean has to offer.
Hot Rocks and unsurpassed spectacle ! Yes Montserrat has a Volcano - That's what makes it so interesting. Since its initial eruption in 1995 the island has now a reduced population of about 7,000 people but has magically retained its original friendly Caribbean charm. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) offers excellent information on current activity (now in its 3rd phase) and holds tours every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:30 at its observatory in Friths, where excellent views comparable with Arawak's abound. Don't worry Arawak together with the MVO is situated in the safe zone but viewing is free to occupiers from Arawak's panoramic pool terrace! At night turnout the lights and just look up to see an unsurpassed display of stars that you thought were gone forever! The Milky Way IS still there but sadly extinguished from sight in many countries - but not in Montserrat. Star gazing is a must from Arawak's terrace or whilst taking that long dip in the pool at the end of the day. See if you can catch a shooting star.
Hill Trekking Wonderful guided tours or indeed unguided walks are available but probably best appreciated with a guide who can find and highlight pleasure in what others would have only ignored. A recent guided tour provided by the Montserrat National Trust provided us with a stunning early morning hike through to the foot hills of Katy Hill. Jack Boy Hill, also being an excellent place to view the Volcano, provided us with a detailed look of the tropical rain forest but also provided us with clear sightings of both male and female Oriol - Montserat's endangered national bird. Stunning views along the walk provided one of the highlights of our visit. - Owner
Guest Book Nov'06 - Thanks for a wonderful break. The people there really are as friendly as you say but we will have to live with a memory of their smiles until next time. Arawak was as you say the ultimate in relaxation - with the chance of out of this world walks through the rain forest. A naturalists paradise with so many different creatures, birds, iguanas and mountain chicken. Ooh and the POOL - We'll be back... Carol & Rich Grifiths. July 07 - wanted you to know just how much we all enjoyed our stay at Arawak. It was exactly as you portrayed it though I didn't fully appreciate just how amazing the views of the volcano would be from pool side. We loved the diving snorkeling and the trip to Plymouth that Sea Wolf was able to provide - great people to deal with and were the highlight of the trip. Hiked up to the Cot, visited the National Trust and the MVO went to just about every available beach and, in general, did a lot of exploring. The island is gorgeous Chuck & Kathleen Killman
Other Activities nature trekking; bird watching; volcano watching! and general wildlife appreciation
