Calabash is a 2200 sq. ft. island style home, made from heavy timbers and beautiful local wood under trees on a five-acre estate on a peninsula, with waterfronts on three sides. This open dramatic house features wrap around porches overlooking the two bays and the ocean. There are spectacular water views from every room with the reef -- only 300 yards in front of the house. A small reef is only 60 feet off our own small swimming beach, on the bay in front of the house. This property is located on the windward side of Roatan Island in the Honduras. The trade winds keep it cool and very comfortable (but one room is air conditioned... an air conditioner we have never used). This house is very private, with access only by boat; however it is only five minutes from the parking/taxi/bus area of the community of Oak Ridge.

We have a husband and wife team who manage the property and handle the large dory for transportation to and from the village for shopping and restaurants, as well as a motor boat for distant places. Eric is bilingual and doesn't get in the way unless called upon -- to ensure your privacy while staying at the cabana. A swimming pool is located just outside the door of the first-floor of this three-story home. And the huge sunning deck is loaded with deck chairs and sunning sofas. An outside shower for rinsing off after swimming in the bay is behind the house. Transportation to and from the cabana is in protected waters inside the main reef system, and is in shallow water -- only six feet deep. Our past guests and returning guests all comment that the best part of this rental is its location -- away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded tourist areas.

These tourist sites can be easily reached by public transportation, or our 5 seat car, complete with driver and guide, that can be rented for the same price as the local rental cars. We are only three minutes from the main reef in front of the house. All local transportation into town and to the dive resorts are included in the cost of the rental. We offer day-long and half-day tours to remote beaches and private swimming areas in our big motor dory, at very reasonable prices. Our staff can get fresh seafood of all types delivered to the door on short notice. And for those concerned about gaining weight, you can work off those delicious meals on the private basketball court, located on the bay behind the house. Our home is considered one of the best in the area. And our staff's reputation for good, friendly service is well-documented around the island. You can rest assured that your security and privacy are our main concern.
