Further Details for the villa in Queensland, Australia
How close are you to the main street ? This question is usually asked by people who don't plan on hiring a car and are concerned about how well they will be able to get around. The Villa is approximately 4 kms from the main village centre. It is in a quiet residential neighbourhood just off the main road into the village. Local shuttle buses run from The Villa to the village every 15 minutes from 7am to 12am every day. Taxis are also available 24 hours a day. For the more energetic it is an easy (flat) walk or bicyle ride (hire available) along footpaths or the beach. While a great place to visit and spend time enjoying all the fantastic facilities, unless you want to be in the centre of the action all the time, the main street is not conducive to peace and relaxation. It is party / tourist central, especially in the peak season. Most popular holiday accommodations, including the large resorts, are in the same area as The Villa. All tour operators will pick you up and return you to The Villa.
Do I need to hire a car ? That is a matter of personal choice. You don't have to if you don't wish to self-drive however there are some significant advantages in hiring a car if you want to explore the region. 1. You can visit many places in your own timeframe and pace without joining organised tours (although sometimes that is the better way to see some attractions). 2. You will save money, especially if there are a few in your group (most day tours are over A$100 per person and car hire starts at about A$50 per day). 3. It will be quicker and cheaper to transfer from / to the airport. You can hire a car at Cairns Airport or once you get to Port Douglas, just for the days you need it. We are happy to advise further if required.
How close are the beach, shops and restaurants ? Four Mile Beach is an easy 500 metre walk. Local shops (supermarket, chemist, liquor store, cafe, video hire, internet shop, take-way food, etc) are from 400 to 2000 metres away. The main shopping in the village is 4 kms away. Local restaurants (fine dining to beach casual) are from 100 - 500 metres away. Many more restaurants are in the village 4 kms away. All take-away food outlets that deliver, will deliver to The Villa.
Golf Information: The Villa is a short walk / drive (less than 1 km) to either the Sheraton Mirage or Sea Temple Links golf courses. The Mossman golf course is approximately 20 kms north of Port Douglas (at the Newell Beach turnoff). The general public is welcome at all these courses.
Other Activities reef, rainforest, mountain and 4wd tours, resort shopping, dining, health spas
