Barga cottage Rental Property Information
The cottage its self is over 200 years old but the inside has been fitted with modern conveniences. Every single cubic centimeter has been used to the fullest advantage. Every window of the cottage gives directly onto magnificent views, and the adjacent balcony with its terrace below, gardens and grounds are the most unusual things to find in an Italian hilltop village. Perhaps the overriding advantage of the cottage's position is the fact that it affords COMPLETE PEACE AND ABSOLUTE PRIVACY, while being a few minutes by car (10 minutes), to Barga where you can find all the necessary provisions.

Northern Tuscany is for those who love all that nature has to offer and what man has been able to create. This is a region still preserved from the typical images one has in mind when thinking about Tuscany. The Garafagna region of Italy is full of hiking trails, natural preserves and the Apenines mountains. This is Tuscany as it was before. Spectacular views, virtually untouched scenery and warm welcomes from families who have been here forever. We are a 10 minute car ride from Barga or a 50 minute walk if you choose to take the Roman road down. The views across the valley are breathtaking and will never cease to amaze you.

| Notes: | The cottage is ideal for two and comfortable for four persons though it is possible using the upstairs sofa bed to sleep and extra person if needed. Owing to the walking involved and the steep terraces around the cottage, we do not consider it suitable for the elderly or the very young. A car is essential and if needed, we can advice you on the best route to take to make your way to the cottage. The weekly rental includes electricity for lighting and water heating; gas for cooking, all bath, hand and tea towels and bed linen. Guests intending to swim (at the beaches in Viareggio or the public outdoor pool in Barga), should bring their own swimming towels please. Guests are asked to leave the cottage in a clean a tidy state. We have recently installed an outdoor shower for the comfort of our guests. |
Further Details for the cottage in Lucca Area, Tuscany, Italy
Sommocolonia Sommocolonia - The very name is romantic. It means 'the colony at the summit', and was founded by the Romans. They showed their discernment by selecting the loveliest and most strategic hilltop in northern Tuscany, whence on a clear day, you really can 'see forever'. If Michelangelo believed that 'God splendidly laid out the hills around Florence', then he can't have seen the view from Sommocolonia, or, to be precise, from 'Allacoppacapanna' In more recent history, Sommocolonia was the last battle ground between the advancing allied troops (mostly African Americans), and the German army in WWII. A moment has been erected in the honor of the fallen shoulders in particular Forest. This is a quaint hill village with a church, piazza and balcony to take in the stunning views across the Serchio valley. From the cottage you can walk up through the village into the woods and mountains and the area of Lama, or down the Roman path which forms part of the boundary of the cottage'
Barga and its surroundings The town of Barga, 15 minutes by car, has a well-stocked supermarket, all other necessary shopping facilities, banks with cash machines, bars, restaurants and an excellent ice-cream parlour. Within the old town are the Duomo and the Opera House - host to annual Opera festival of Barga and many other historic buildings. Barga also had a public pool with mountain views, tennis courts and picnic areas. Nearby is the town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana with its weekly market and from where trips can be made into the Apuan Alps. The tourist office is quite helpful with information for visiting the entire region. Visit Lucca (one hour drive), which is renowned for its olive oil. As non-residents are not allowed to drive within the ancient walls (there is plenty of parking outside), you can easily ride a bicycle or walk through the town. For visiting Florence, we suggest driving to Lucca and parking there to take the train to Florence.
The Beach In 1 hour and 50 minutes you arrive at the beautiful beaches of Viareggio where you can sunbathe with the locals. There are both private and public beaches. We suggest asking about the water condition at the private beaches as you can not see the sea from where you will pay. Would be a shame to pay and find out the kids can't go into the water due to high tide.
