The Lodge is a completely private house in the grounds of an old and very beautiful ex-farmhouse. It is the perfect base to visit Florence, Siena, Chianti, and the hill and wine towns of Tuscany and nearby Umbria; itineraries provided. It is comfortable and welcoming. Ideal for groups of up to 4 adults or families of up to 5 (not suitable for 5 adults). Lovely Garden setting. 2 large very comfortable en-suite bedrooms (one with four-poster bed); Large living room; open wood-burning fireplace; Dining room; Kitchen; Panoramic Patio/dining area; Completely self-contained and private; not overlooked. Located in the heart of the Val di Chiana countryside near Cortona, Monte San Savino, Lucignano, Arezzo. The house is surrounded by large (2.5 acres) gardens and olive grove with views of the surrounding hills. Short walk to the nearby medieval village. Excellent local and reasonably priced restaurants. Because of its strategic location, it is perfect as a base to explore Southern Tuscany and Umbria and for a relaxing holiday in comfortable and elegant surroundings. You can be sure of privacy, peace and tranquility. Ideal location to visit Siena (26 miles), Florence (44 miles), Cortona (made famous by the book Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes) (12 miles), Perugia (48 miles), Assisi and Arezzo (12 miles). Rome (112 miles) is 90 minutes away by train. Nearby are the medieval hill towns of Southern Tuscany and Umbria, including Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino, the Val d’Orcia, and the monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.   • Bedrooms 1 and 2 are spacious, cool and airy, with large en suite bathrooms (shower/WC etc). Bedroom 1 has a four-poster and stunning hill views. Bedroom 2 has lovely garden views. Orthopaedic mattresses. Both are completely private and not overlooked. Very quiet. Terracotta floors, beamed ceilings, marble bathrooms. Exceptionally well-furnished: large wardrobe, dresser, 2 bedside tables and lamps; chair; central light. Outside shutters and mosquito screens on all windows. Bedlinen changed weekly; towels replaced every 3 days. Bedroom 3 - double divan bed - is large and easy to use. It is is in living room. Really well-furnished and in mint condition. The sleeping arrangements are perfect for a group of 4 adults or a family of up to 5. They are not suitable for 5 adults. Both bedrooms are air-conditioned.

Swimming pools - Thermal spas There are numerous very nice reasonably priced swimming pools in the area, all within a short drive. All towns have one. Badicorte (5 mins. drive) is very popular with children as it has numerous slides etc. The nicest are Sinalunga, Trequanda (magnificent setting), Castiglion Fiorentino and Camucia. Foiano (5 mins) is rarely crowded. Two famous thermal spas are nearby: Rapolano Terme (15 minutes) and Bagno Vignoni (40 minutes).

Local events and markets Market days (mornings): Monday: Foiano della Chiana; Tuesday: Sinalunga; Wednesday: Monte san Savino, Castiglione del Lago; Thursday: Lucignano, Camucia; Friday: Castiglion Fiorentino; Saturday: Arezzo, Cortona. The antiques fair in Arezzo takes place on the first Sunday of the month (starts on Friday evening and continues Saturday and Sunday). Arezzo, Monte San Savino and Cortona have numerous antique shops. The famous horse-race in Siena, the Palio, is held in early July and mid-August. Each village and town has local feasts: please inquire for details. The biggest one is the Maggiolata held in May in Lucignano. Each town/village often has open-air concerts and other musical events. Cortona usually has a few open-air operas, and there is a concert festival in Monte San Savino.

Places to see All are within one hour's drive. We can provide detailed itineraries and advice where to eat etc. FLORENCE. Leave your car at the small station of Castiglion Fiorentino and take the train to Florence, leaving and returning every hour; less than 1 hour’s journey. Avoid the traffic problems in Florence! SIENA is about 40 minutes away by car, driving through magical country side. Easy parking. Siena has the famous horse-race, Il Palio, and is perfectly preserved. CORTONA AND LAKE TRASIMENO. Etruscan remains at Cortona and Foiano. LUCIGNANO: spectacular medieval village; Church La Collegiata. MONTE SAN SAVINO: small market town with Loggiato in the main street and marvellous garden and amphitheatre. Nearby is the Castle of Gargonza. MONTEPULCIANO AND PIENZA. ABBEY OF MONTE OLIVETO. MONTALCINO: home of Brunello wine. AREZZO, SAN SEPOLOCRO, PERUGIA, ASSISI. And much much more! Wonderful walking. If you are tired of sight-seeing, or simply want to relax ... your garden awaits!

You were the perfect hosts; not intrusive but always there if we had any questions. Your housekeeper is a darling, always with a ready smile. Overall an excellent holiday; we feel relaxed and ready to face our return to reality! - A magical place, truly a gem in Tuscany. - The Lodge is so beautifully furnished and in such a picturesque area. I would like to keep this place a secret but I must not be selfish and will have to tell my friends. - A truly magical holiday for our first time to Italy. The area is beautiful and, all the tours suggested are wonderful. We completely relaxed. - The perfect place from which to explore Tuscany. - We have had a fantastic time as always, and award 10/10. - Our second visit. As lovely as we remembered.
