Lot et garonne The Lot et Garonne is named “the Orchard of France” and has long been popular with photographers, artists and naturalists who come to savour the varied scenery, gently rolling landscape and varied flora and fauna. Depending on the season you might spot Hoopoe, Golden Oriole and Osprey. Buzzards, kites, owls and smaller birds such as redstarts and nuthatch are common. There are red squirrels, badgers, foxes, deer as well as different bees, butterflies, lizards and wild flowers. For full regional information,please see our website.
Wine and Food If it’s wine that attracts you, Bordeaux and Saint Emilion are an hour and a half away. Much nearer are good local but less well known wine producers; Bergerac; Buzet; Duras; Marmande; and Agen. The region also boasts a wealth of locally produced food grown on the rich fertile alluvial soils, such as mushrooms, truffles melons, apricots, plums, tomatoes and so many more. There are also some wonderful open markets including organic ones in many of the local towns and villages. Being France there are of course many great bistros, auberges and restaurants to suit all. Sporting activities There are 3 local golf courses all of which have clubs, buggies and trollies for hire. Tennis courts are only minutes away. Boating on the river lot . Cycling and walking are popular, especially out of season when the climate is a little cooler and there are many marked routes suitable for everyone. Fishing on the River Lot is excellent with large Carp and Trout and there is a tackle shop locally at Ste Livrade. There is also big game fishing at Arcachon and Cap Feret. Horse riding is available locally for all levels of ability. If you fancy something a bit more adventurous why not try a spot of microlight flying at nearby Grange Sur Lot or water skiing on the Lot at Fongrave.
