Pool and Terraces The pool and terraces have been designed to produce the maximum space for guests whilst maximising individual space. The 11x5m pool is surrounded by a very large sheltered terrace. The pool is fitted with a retractable telescopic pool cover. Solar heated shower adjacent to the swimming pool. There are 3 terraces; a 5x4mterrace outside the downstairs master bedroom; a 6x4m terrace outside the other downstairs bedroom with an inlaid giant chess board; in between these two terraces and underneath the large balcony is timber deck with a swinging bench. A 4x3m first floor balcony faces west and is an ideal point to watch the swimming pool and view the stunning sun sets. Atmospheric lighting throughout enables the pool and terrace to be used late into the evening. The gardens extend to over 3 acres with a fenced lower garden of 2 acres. Basketball, trampoline, play area, football goals, sand pit and boules are available also 6 adult Rayleigh bikes; 2 children’s bikes and a trailer bike.
Downstairs The focal point of the barn is a large sitting room 9m x 8m which is open to a timbered 'cathedral' ceiling and a large mezzanine area. This room is full of character with the original stone walls and tiled floors. Located within the lounge is an entertainment area which includes a 42in HD plasma TV connected to a DVD and VCR. A championship pool table is also in the lounge area. The kitchen and dining area leads from the sitting room. The kitchen is 9m x 4m with beamed ceilings, tiled floors and oak fitted units. It also has a large gas oven and hob, microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. The dining area in the kitchen can comfortably accommodate 6 to 14 people. The kitchen opens, through French doors, onto a partly covered tiled terrace. There is a BBQ, table and chairs on the terrace ideal for 'al fresco' dining. Downstairs the two large bedrooms both have adjacent en-suite shower rooms, with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and tiled floors and doors to terrace
Upstairs There are two further bedrooms upstairs with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and wooden floors. They are equipped with air conditioning units. These bedrooms share a large bathroom with shower. There is a large mezzanine area, where games and activities are provided (table football; small snooker table; darts board). There are two separate seating areas on the mezzanine, one consisting of two wicker chairs and a table which makes an ideal reading corner. In addition, there is a small library/study area. The second area can be partitioned, with curtains, from the main mezzanine and used as a fifth bedroom, comprising two single beds. When not in use as a bedroom the area is used as a 'snug', with the two beds converting into relaxing settees with a TV and DVD. Teenagers love this area. From the mezzanine there is access onto a large 4x3m balcony with table and chairs and lovely views
Golf Information: Tee times can be booked by owner and advice given on courses. All local courses have been played by owner. Acabanes is only five minutes from Chateau des Vigiers, one of the best golf resorts in France. Donald Steel (designer of the Forest of Arden championship course) is considered to be one of the very best 'natural' golf course architects, created this unique 18-hole, par 72 course in its enthralling setting amidst plum trees, oak woods, lakes and vineyards. Donald, who has contributed to many world-famous courses such as the Jubilee and Eden courses at St. Andrews as well as Chantilly in France, designed the course with the Château as its centrepiece; the 9th and 18th finishing off in front of the Château; and many of the other undulating greens with different perspectives of the Château. When asked by Golf World to name his favourite hole from his long career, Donald chose N° 18 at Château des Vigiers, with its dogleg over a ridge for the second shot over the lake on to the green, in front of the Château. Subsequently it was described in Golf World under the heading 'Vintage Finale'. Château des Vigiers' course is maintained as a holiday course with short rough, promoting quick play and accessibility for higher handicaps. However, the greens are frequently lightning fast and prove a test for any golfer. With strategic pin positions and longer rough, the course can be turned into a challenge for the best golfer. Golf courses also in Bordeaux and Arcachon.
Guest Book 'Although I had pored over the pictures and information several times in anticipation of our holiday at Acabanes, I was not prepared for the WOW factor as we all entered. We were quickly impressed by the array of facilities and following a long and tiring journey were delighted to enjoy the first of several meals on the terrace. We could play with all the toys, go out to vineyards, visit the bastides and of course drink wine.' C.F - Colchester - 9th July 2005. 'What a great break in a brilliantly kitted out gite. There’s so much provided here it would be hugely difficult to think of anything that’s missing. From the bikes to the range of plastic glasses we enjoyed it all. And then there’s the setting – amazing. With only a week we didn’t have time to explore properly but what we did do we enjoyed. But really we could have stayed in Acabanes the whole time and enjoyed a restful home from home even more.' S.M. - 29th May 2004.
Other Activities Go karting; Ten Pin Bowling; Canoeing; Waterparks, horse riding
