Mal Pais studio Rental Property Information

Ever stayed in a tree house? Now's your chance! It's a wonderful opportunity for a unique vacation. The tree house is nestled in a Banyan tree amongst the Howler Monkeys, a large variety of tropical birds, and other Costa Rican wildlife. Become a part of the jungle by living in this tropical paradise. Playa Selva Tree House is a custom built tree house studio in Mal Pais, Costa Rica. We have the only tree house for rent on the Nicoya Peninsula, with character you can not receive in any other vacation rental. The tree house is a creatively and quality constructed studio with a kitchenette (equiped with a refrigerator, sink, dishes utensils, coffee maker and complimentary Costa Rican coffee -use of a charcoal grill BBQ is available as the cooking appliance), full bath with hot water, indoor and outdoor shower, linens, ceiling fan, balcony with sitting area, and it can accommodate up to three people (one double bed, one single).

Playa Selva is located in Mal Pais, which is at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Mal Pais is south of Santa Teresa and is generally a more quiet environment with fewer tourists and bars, etc. Within a couple minute walk is Mar Azul, a beautiful little beach cove, reef surf break and restaurant serving typical Costa Rican food. The nearest market is less than one mile away, and the nearest supermarket is about 1.5 miles away. Playa Selva is a aprox. a 2 acre property with one tree house, one residential main house, a small caretaker dwelling as well as a bodega/workshop where the owner does welding work, etc. during the day. It is a small, quaint operation, not a large lodging establishment.

Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.

  • High Season (Nov 1 - April 31) = $65/Night, Low Season (May 1 - Oct. 31) = $50/Night
  • Tree House rates vary with the season, from $50-$65/night. Please inquire.
    Costa Rican Hotel tax of 16.39% will be added. A 50% deposit is required to secure reservations. Cancellations must be made 30 days prior to reservation date.
    Breakfast is an additional charge of $6/person, and must be arranged in advance.

It's situated on a two acre parcel, Playa Selva, and is an easy five minute walk from a lovely semi-private beach cove and good surf at Mar Azul. There are also four restaurants/bars within walking distance. For our guests, Playa Selva also has a swimming pool, and rents bicycles, surf boards and snorkeling equipment. We also offer activity games for your enjoyment such as horse shoes, croquet, bocci ball and badminton. And for a little extra fun and adventure, we also offer surfing lessons! Breakfast served to you in your tree house may also be arranged! Please inquire.
