Further Details for the cabin in Montana, USA

Secluded setting: You'll love the peace and quiet as you gaze at the mountains while enjoying a meal on the wrap-around deck. In the valley below you might see mule deer grazing, and bald eagles can also be spotted regularly. Yellowstone River is only about 200 yards from the house and is visible from the deck. All summer, occasional rafters can be seen enjoying their float down the river. The sun sets in the crux of a canyon directly in front of the deck, often with spectacular colors. If you're looking for beautiful views in the quiet seclusion of pristine Montana surroundings, with easy access to Yellowstone Park, and the fishing and white water rafting opportunities of Yellowstone River, you will be delighted with your stay at our Yellowstone Vacation Home. Please note: Vacations in April, May, September and October can be a good option, because the weather is not as hot and Yellowstone Park has fewer visitors.

Winter in Yellowstone Park: During the winter, there can be up to 6 inches of snow on the roads to our vacation rental cabin, so a 4-wheel drive vehicle is required. The area around the cabin does not generally get heavy snowfalls, but Yellowstone Park is at a higher elevation and gets lots of snow. Most of the park roads are closed to normal traffic during the winter, from early November through mid April. From mid December through mid March these roads are open exclusively to all forms of winter transport, including snow coaches, snowmobiles and cross-country skiers. Our favorite activity summer through the winter is to soak in the outdoor hot spring pools at Boiling River. Its parking area is only 3 miles inside the Park from Gardiner. A creek of hot geothermal water mingles with the cold river water where it's great to soak and relax. You might see wildlife passing by as you unwind, enjoying the comfort of the hot springs in its beautiful natural setting.

Hunting information: Hunters are also welcome at Yellowstone Vacation Home. This area of Montana, just north of Yellowstone Park, receives hundreds of elk migrating out of Yellowstone Park each winter. There is also a year round resident herd of elk in the mountains just above the cabin, and mule deer are abundant in the area. Hunting, in-season, is open to the public on all of the vast U.S. Forest Service lands that immediately surround the cabin for miles. If you choose, you can even leave the cabin on foot to hunt without disturbing the game animals with the sounds of a vehicle. The cabin is situated in Montana hunting district 314.

Skiing Information: The only car-accessible park entrance that remains open year-round is in Gardiner, 11 miles south of the vacation home. Mammoth Hot Springs, the Park headquarters, is only a 5 mile drive from Gardiner. That plowed road remains open all winter all the way to Tower Falls, the Lamar Valley and Cooke City. Many trail heads for groomed cross-country ski trails are located along this road. In Mammoth you can rent snowmobiles, cross-country skis and snowshoes and take snow-coaches that transport you to Old Faithful or take you on tours to other destinations. There is also an ice skating rink open to the public at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and the restaurant remains open there as well as at the Old Faith Faithful Lodge.

Guest Book For 9 nights we took advantage of the Yellowstone Vacation Home and had a great time. The cabin is well equipped and kept in great shape. Six of us meet every year in that area and this year we took advantage of the great prices that Bruce gives for off season rates. The view is awesome looking back up into Joe Brown and Slip-n-Slide, and we had over 100 elk feed out into the field and water just below the cabin in addition to the deer we saw every afternoon. We are already making plans for next year and are looking forward to staying at this cabin again next year as well as bringing my family up sometime this fall for a couple of days. Bruce, thanks for letting us stay and having a great time. The Fella's from the United States Air Force. Dave Lycan, Colorado Springs, CO (david.e.lycan@saic.com)
