Activities This '55+' adult community, Mountainbrook Village has its own Mountainbrook Golf Course. It is a short drive to the Gold Canyon Resort with its Sidewinder and Dinosaur Mountain courses. The community center, about 10 minutes' walk away, has a swimming pool, whirlpool, billiards, fitness center, tennis courts and a well stocked library with computer. Mountainbrook Village has almost four dozen activity groups (alphabetically from 'Band' to 'Wisconsin Club') to participate with, as diverse as hiking, motorcycling and quilting. People hike to the top of local Silly Mountain to watch the sunset. Strolling after dark is beautiful! Mountainbrook Village is a 'no street lights' community, (with minimal car traffic) so when taking an evening stroll, one's eyes adjust to the darkness. The beauty of the sky, the interwoven desert and the Superstition Mountains can be seen. The night-time beauty is continually amazing.
In Phoenix one can visit the Heard Museum (anthropological and primitive arts), Arizona Museum (pioneer exhibits), Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Mineral Museum and the Desert Botanical Gardens and zoo. Phoenix has several major sports teams. Being on the eastern edge of the Phoenix metro area, it's convenient to head down to Tucson and its Pima Air Museum, 'Old Tucson,' the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the Mission San Xavier del Bac and the Kitt National Observatory. Or, go up into the hills to Superior, Globe, the Salt River Canyon and Show Low. The Roosevelt Dam and reservoir, and Coolidge Dam and San Carlos reservoir make fun day trips. The Tonto National Forest and Lost Dutchman mine legends can be investigated.
