Plum Island's best relaxation spot! Plum Island is a very special, eclectic, healing place and this 4BR oceanfront home fits wonderfully into that space with it's panoramic views, sunlit rooms, open format, wrap around deck situated on 3 lots with plenty of parking. Swim or walk away your cares any time day or night on the warm sandy ocean beach - south toward the Parker River Wildlife Refuge or north toward the Merrimac River and PI jetty, to watch the boats make their way out to sea or back to Newburyport harbor. On a clear day, you can see as far as NH coast and Maine's Isle of Shoals on one side and Cape Ann on the other, you can even see coastal fireworks from the top of the dune . Enjoy magnificent views from nearly everywhere in the house. Cook in the granite kitchen with eat-at bar, use the DR or grill outside while enjoying your guests and a glass of wine,. Or relax - and order in or walk across the street to Mad Martha's Beach Cafe for breakfast, lunch or a BYOB dinner.
Or ...There's plenty to do! Feel active? Besides swimming, walking on the sand being great exercise - we have a 2-person ocean kayak under the deck for your enjoyment, just drag it down to the ocean with life jackets & paddles (int he garage). ...or go bike riding on up to 6 miles of scenic roads on the island, not counting the Parker River Wildlife Refuge or biking the 3 miles each way into Newburyport's Market Square. Lots of nearby boating, fishing, whale watching, river or ocean catamaran cruises.. 25+ great restaurants in Newburyport plus more in surrounding towns, some with great views of the Merrimac River and there is a riverfront park and boardwalk to walk off your meal! Lots of shopping in town and sidewalk sales and concerts in the park all summer.. Like arts? Visit The Firehouse Center or The Actors' Studio at The Tannery for performaing arts or one of several local ar galleries for visiual arts. More info at Newburyport Chamber of Commerce site.
About Plum Island Plum Island is an 11 mile long barrier island just off the shore of Newburyport, Mass. The island faces the Atlantic Ocean and is separated from the mainland by a causeway / bridge that crosses spectacular tidal marshes and the Parker and Merrimac Rivers. Most of Plum Island is part of the 4,600 acre Parker River Wildlife Refuge and is on a major migratory path for many birds. An Auduon Center is just off-island. The island also has 3 restaurants, 2 convenience stores, a liquor store and deep sea fishing / party cruises, its own lighthouse and of course miles of beautiful sandy beaches. It's a little reminiscent of the movie 'The Summer of '42'. Plum Island is conveniently located 10 minutes from Newburyport, 45 minutes from Boston, NH and Maine... only 4-5 hours to NYC. Newburyport's a bedroom community on the river with great shopping, arts, water activities and restaurants.
