Driving 4-5 miles will take you to the beautiful Jenkinsen Lake, where you'll find numerous biking and hiking trails. You can do water-ski, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Paddle boats and motorboats are available for rental. Cascading down from the Sierra Nevada runs the West Coast's most popular whitewater resource - the South Fork of the American River. An intermediate (Class III) river, the South Fork American River is suitable for kids 7 to 75! Numerous professional outfitters offer trips ranging from short half-day jaunts on up two-day adventures. Gold Panning and Gold Mines Marshall Gold Discovery State Park in Coloma offers attractions, exhibits, and events to keep the family busy all day.Gold Bug Mine and Park the 362-foot hard rock mine, gift shop, stamp mill, hiking trails and gold panning make for a terrific outdoor adventure for the whole family. Successful panners enjoy mining on most of the forks and creeks flowing into the American and Cosumnes Rivers.
