It is minutes from the picturesque Danish Caribbean town of Christiansted, once the capital of the Virgin Islands and Fredricksted, also called Freedom City on the sunset west coast of the island. St. Croix is a pleasant blend of the busy activity of St. Thomas and the tranquility of St. John. There is plenty to do, with three golf courses, a casino, excellent diving, first class restaurants and secluded sandy beaches. Plus, you can explore our meticulously maintained botanical gardens, the museum at Whim Plantation and go horseback riding in the rain forest. The options are unlimited. Perfect for divers, snorkelers, beach combers, sun lovers, and history buffs.

The beach at Gentle Winds is among the finest beaches in the Virgin Islands. If you are looking for a variety of beaches, St Croix offers other north coast beaches at Cane and Davis bay as well as Kramer Park near Point Udahl, the eastern most point in the United States and the site of a prize winning Millennium monument. Just around the bend to the south is the Divi Carina Bay Casino and hotel. Halfpenny Beach on the southeastern part of the island is enjoyed year round as are the sunset beaches on St Croix's west coast. If you come in the Spring and inquire in advance, it may be possible to arrange a Turtle watch through the US Fish and Wildlife Service of the several nesting amphibians who return to St Croix to lay and tend their eggs and to give their progeny a good start in life.

The cultural life of St Croix is not limited to viewing historical sites and viewing historical reenactments. There is an Art Museum in Fredricksted, several first rate galleries, frequent art exhibitions at a variety of venues including the annual Starving Artists Festival at the Whim Museum, a fully restored sugar plantation. St Croix is gifted with world class musicians who play free concerts on the third Friday and first Sunday of every month. There are a half dozen venues for Jazz, blues and vocals of every kind as well as 2 dance companies and a variety of visiting artists at the Whim Museum's candlelit concert series and at the Island Center for the Performing arts. There is a fine repertory theatre company which, in addition to its regular performances has launched Page to Stage this year. It is an attempt to provide theatre learning experiences for Virgin Islands children.

Golf Information: Carambola, a fully mature Robert Trent Jones golf course has hosted LPGA events and a national youth golf tournament as well. From the championship tees, Carambola is 6865 Yards of challenging golf with first class amenities. There is a second 18 hole course at the Buccaneer Hotel with plenty of hills and great ocean views. There is also a 9 hole course on the northeastern portion of the island for those in the mood for a shorter and less challenging golf outing.
