Schoodic Point cottage Rental Property Information

The Postman's Loft offers a unique rental opportunity in a picturesque area of Maine. Situated above the local post office, it offers a chance to get away from the crowds and enjoy a safe and carefree vacation in a small Maine fishing village on the Schoodic Peninsula. The spacious living area has wonderful views looking out over the harbor. You can watch the sun rise across the islands, and later watch the lobster boats come in from a day's haul. Buy lobster and crab at the Lobster Co-Op, or gather your own mussels and clams. Darthia Farm is just up the road, and sells organic fruits, vegetables, and cheeses. The kitchen is fully equipped (including ocean views); you can eat in, or prepare a picnic to take to the shore. Or maybe you'll decide to enjoy the many area restaurants. Most restaurants serve the same farm-fresh veggies and fresh catch of the day. Search the shore for beach glass or sand dollars.

The Postman's Loft is located in the village of Corea on the tip of the Schoodic peninsula. It is 7 miles to the entrance to Acadia National Park on the mainland, and across Frenchman's Bay from the tourist areas of Mount Desert Island. Visitors can drive or take the ferry to Bar Harbor, or enjoy the peaceful side of the park near home. Freshwater ponds provide great venues for fishing and kayaking, the many lighthouses along the coast offer spectacular ocean views, and Campobello Island is an attractive site for those interested in American history.

At low tide you can walk on the ocean's floor to a nearby island; but don't tarry and miss the tide change. Scamper on the rocks or on the hiking trails at Schoodic Point. Pick wild berries in season. Watch the local paper ads for church and grange sales -- where homemade jellies and baked goods are plentiful. Mount Dessert Island, home to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, is a short drive away. But stops at antique shops, farm stands, scenic views, lobster pounds, and other attractions may extend your trip. You can catch the ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor if you like, and use the free bus service to tour the island. Visit lighthouses, or head north to Campobello Island -- summer home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. And you can enjoy a day trip in Canada. Be as busy as you want, or just relax on your private balcony and watch the world go by. Corea, a slower pace of life.

Golf Information: There are several golf courses in the area, some with ocean views. The one at Grindstone Neck in Winter Harbor is the nearest.
