Manton house Rental Property Information

This is a wonderful family retreat, where the kids can catch frogs and fish and play in the two private ponds. Nestled on a knoll overlooking the larger pond on 15 acres of pine forest, this very secluded house is hidden both from the road and from other dwellings. There are coyotes, foxes, and a bobcat living nearby. Sometimes you will see deer in the morning and early evening. Many birds use this area for wintering, and Canadian geese make a nest on the small island each year and raise their family on the pond. A large deck overlooks the pond; you can eat outside and watch the clouds turn color as the sun sets over the mountains. A large Weber propane barbecue is on the deck for summer outdoor cooking. Air conditioning provides that extra measure of comfort for sleeping in the late summer afternoons. Bring your own food, fishing gear, and water toys. Sheets, towels, dishes, and most everything else you need are all provided.

Mt. Lassen National Park is an hour and a half drive from the house. You can drive through the park from Hwy 36 to Hwy 44 and it makes a nice day trip from the house, to the park and then through the park and back on the other highway. There are lots of hiking trails in the park. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy! Fly fishing with a guide can be arranged through fly shops in Redding and Sacramento, (check it out on the Web) or you can just teach the kids on our private pond! We stock it with healthy Rainbow Trout, so you can catch them all year round. No fishing license required, if you do not leave the property.

Further Details for the house in California, USA

We do not get a lot of snow in winter and it melts off fast, because we are only at 3000 feet elevation. Last year, however, it did snow on Christmas Day! There are no ski resorts nearby - there used to be a small one at Mt. Lassen, but it has been closed for several years. The month of May is lovely, the bulbs are up and the flowers are still in bloom. It is the start of fishing season, so the fish are very active in the pond. However, you might have a problem with the road through Mt. Lassen - if there is a lot of snow, it will be closed! The months of Sept and Oct are our favorite time of year to be there, the leaves are turning color, the area is very beautiful with warm days and cool nights. Summers are the best, warm, sunny days and the pond is great for swimming! The evenings are always cool - when the sun goes down, so does the temperature. The house is usually booked solid from June through August. Please book early to reserve your dates and let me know by email.
