Further Details for the house in Big Island, Hawaii, USA

Comfort and Serenity... The open design of the home allows you to savor the fragrant aromas of the plumeria, jasmine, gardenia, and many other indigenous flowers of the Big Island. After a meal, retire to one of the many spacious lanais overlooking the Bay, where you can be swept away by the calming sounds and smells of the ocean -- or catch a glimpse of the spinner dolphins or breaching whales in season. Nap in the family-size hammock or curl up with a book on the bamboo chaise. No matter where you choose to lounge, you'll be treated to ocean views, exotic birds, fresh fragrant air, and comfortable furnishings. Launch one of our top-of-the-line kayaks into the crystal-clear waters of historic Kealakekua Bay -- the home of the Ancient Hawaiian Alii (Royalty). Snorkel or shore dive with schools of tropical fish, Manta Ray, sea turtles, and octopus. If you have never had the experience of swimming with a pod of dolphins, plan on it everyday.

Wildlife abounds... These mammals will entertain you with their acrobatics and friendly dispositions -- and will guide you on an unforgettable tour of the Bay. And for those of you who visit during the balmy winter months, enjoy the phenomenon of migrating humpback whales who come back each year to give birth. For the truly adventuresome, grab a boogie board or surfboard, and catch the 'local' break. After an exhilarating day in the sun and surf, enjoy a glass of wine while watching a breathtaking sunset -- which soon becomes a moonlit sky, scattered with stars. Make sure you are the first to catch the 'Southern Star' -- and make a wish. The possibilities are endless at Hale Keawe. Hale Keawe is centrally located in the district of South Kona. World-renowned for its temperate climate, secluded beaches, and brilliant sunshine, Kona is also famous for its coffee. Minutes from the house, you can tour one of the local coffee plantations.

Nearby activities... 4 miles up the hill, the historic town of Captain Cook offers sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and there is convenient grocery shopping, video rentals, quaint eateries, and numerous shops featuring local arts and crafts and unique antiques in Captain Cook. Just 15 miles north is the village of Kailua, where you can charter a dive boat, parasail, eat at a world-class restaurant, enjoy a cocktail on the ocean at sunset, or frequent one of the many local nightclubs. Shopping opportunities are abundant, and so is the local 'Aloha' spirit. Don't miss the local farmers market for ripe papaya, pineapple, colorful anthyriums and orchids, sun-dried Kona coffee, and the freshest fresh fish catch of the day. Local beaches include a black sand beach that is sheltered by a majestic pali (cliff) to the north, and an ancient heiau (temple) to the east. A white sandy beach shaded by coconut palms makes an inviting spot for gathering coral and seashells.

Skiing Information: Water skiing is available in the town of Kona.

Golf Information: Several professional golf courses are located on the Big Island.
