Further Details for the cottage in Washington, USA
Whidbey Island was recently chosen as a “Top 10 Romantic Retreats” and the heart of this amazing island is the charming seaside village of Langley. And, the town’s finest getaway is the Langley Penthouse. Perched centrally atop one of the cities most prominent historic buildings, this spectacular 2+ bedroom retreat, which comfortably sleeps eight, has a commanding view of the town, and ocean and mountains beyond. Down the stairs and out your front door you are within a hundred yards of the finest restaurants, art galleries, coffee bars, bakeries, confectionery outlets, video shops, music stores, antique malls, book stores, designer clothiers, the most wondrous little shops filled with serendipity...chocolate anyone?
Just across the street is Mikes Restaurant for solid old fashioned cuisine with great specials and the best pies in town. Try their Huevos Rancheros for breakfast. Want to get away from it all? Only one block away is the beach walk where you can let the ocean do it’s magic. Or wander down to the harbor and assist with lines at the dock; the new boat owners can always use a little help! Just above the harbor is the Edgecliff for lunch, one of our favorites perched on a spectacular bluff with some of the best views in Puget Sound. We recommend the local Dungeness crab or Penn Cove oysters harvested just a few miles away. When you return from a day of exploring or listening to the locals ramble on at the Whidbey Coffee House, return to the luxury of your penthouse where nothing was spared to make it comfortable and complete, just the way you like it.
There is a kitchen that a gourmet will love, with a charming cocktail counter, or is it a breakfast nook? At first it will have you smiling, and then wondering at the games you will play there…Scrabble anyone? The furnishings are beautiful and luxurious; you will be asking us, where did you get that? Some of the things we have are custom made for us by island craftsmen. And, you’ll find yourself enjoying at the wonderful art collection; they come from the owner’s collection of over 300 originals. The beds are reaalllly comfortable; you might not want to leave your bedroom and that’s OK; hey you’re on vacation! And you don’t have to, as each bedroom is complete with it’s own media system. If you want to catch up on all those videos you’ve been meaning to watch, you can do them in surround sound with the Great Room cinema system designed by the island top media engineer; all while you cozy up to the fireplace…do I smell popcorn?
Golf Information: Speaking of which, across the street and around the corner is something that will take you back in time…and they serve the best popcorn on the island! The Clyde Theatre, an island icon right out of the 40’s, complete with old fashioned balcony. The Clyde owner just seems to know the right movies to bring in each week; we’re sure there is something you’ll want to see. If you go to a movie, you might want to make an evening of it by having dinner at the Café Langley which features exceptional eastern Mediterranean cuisine, and has won many awards. Say hi to the owner Archy for us; he and his brother have done a great job making this a must on your trip. After the movie, walk up the block and pop upstairs to the Prima Bistro and order that special cocktail from Terry the bartender; he’ll tell you some stories while you watch the boats pass on Saratoga Passage. If it’s warm, you can dine outside. Sometimes they have Danny playing, whose band was featured in 'An Officer and a Gentlemen' (remember the scene at the officers club when Richard Gere and Debra Winger first dance?). Need we say more? Stay at the Langley Penthouse and see why the luxury travel reviewers so love this island, and the seaside village of Langley. You will too.
