Although all bedrooms are on the second floor, if someone only wants to go up and down once a day, the Equestrian Room has a walk in shower. Everyone who comes to the top of the mountains, comments that the photos don't do it justice. I hope you will feel the same way when you share the magic of the mountains with us. Comfortable, quality furniture including some family antiques and art work, completely secluded on the back of 140 acres with only the Cherokee National Forest behind us. Lots of little touches which we think will make you feel like have come to 'Auntie Vikki's' Home'. And 'Auntie Vikki' wants you to be comfortable so no 'fussy' things about. This house was built for easy care and 'feet up comfort'. All we ask is that you don't smoke inside or on the balconies or porches since smoke fumes drift on the breezes and can enter the house. Hunting One of the favorite activities at The Lodge is hunting. Deer, grouse, rabbit, turkey and bear are all popular. Each has a season and can be done right on the property. Bear season is the first two weeks of December and the local hunting club welcomes visitors to join them as they follow the dogs through the mountains. Deer and turkey are found right on the Lodge property. But I will warn you, they seem to know when the season is and are hard to find! Other times of year, they feed and rut just off the main decks. There is a bobcat I'd like some to get, but it is very elusive! Bring your bird dog if you want to try for the grouse. I can show you where I often see them, but then it's up to you.

Horseback Riding Dogwood Springs Ranch will bring the horses right to the foot of the mountain on The Lodge property. Then they will take riders up into the mountains, across mountain streams where you will experience the excitement of seeing the forest like Daniel Boone and the other frontiersmen experienced it. Give them a call to reserve your ride!

Pontoon Boat and Fishing Nearby Fish Springs Marina has bass boats, pontoon boats and even a sailboat for rental by the half or full day during the summer and by the hour during cooler months. This is a wonderful way to spend a few hours seeing the mountains in an entirely new way. Because Watauga Lake is 80% owned by the Federal Government, the shoreline is not filled with houses. You will see the mountains in their natural beauty. There are some areas of homes, and those are always interesting to see. Some perched high on the side of a mountain, others with lawns running right down to the shoreline. Bring your own boat - there are bass fishing tournaments throughout the year. Or just your fly rod - a Tier II stream is only about 10 minutes away! All the streams and the lake are stocked from the Erwin Fish Hatchery, but there are local fishermen who are still waiting to catch 'the 300 lb carp' said to be lurking in the depths of the lake.
