Makaira has 2 accommodations only situated on its own acre offering the most privacy of any accommodation on Taveuni. Grander Bure, in our premiere location offers tropical beauty, exclusivity, and 180 degrees of panoramic ocean views. We are the closest location to the best beaches on the island as we are perched above and between two of the largest white sandy beaches on Taveuni, one of which offers the most privacy. Some of the best snorkeling in the world is within 100 feet from entering the calm lagoon. Makaira specializes in affordable luxury and privacy, where you can do as little as you wish or as much as you can stand with a full time Fijian staff to make sure you are comfortable throughout your stay with us. We are suited for the traveler that just wants to get away, without the crowds, be it for romance or quiet reflection.

Lots of closet space to store luggage and gear. For cool refreshment, enjoy the outside rock semi-enclosed 'jungle' shower accented with tropical and exotic plants that forms a natural leaf doorway and a privacy screen while overlooking the ocean. Every room enjoys a panoramic ocean views with islands on the horizon and privacy for the romantics at heart. The Grander Suite is ideal for that special honeymoon with master bedroom, living room, and large deck. But the living room can be easily converted to a second bedroom should the need arise. Please do ask us about our second cottage the Marlin Bure which also sits on its own private acre.

Location We are privately located on the tip Ucuilagi Point that translated into English from the original Fijian name means Heavenly Point or point to Heaven. The original Fijians aptly named this location, as it is the only location in Matei that has stunning panoramic views that are right, left and center overlooking the Somosomo straits and islands on the horizon. The property is almost 4 acres with manicured gardens, filled with tropical fruits, flowers, and native birds. There are two white sandy coves to either side of us. The beaches to the left are the most beautiful and are the largest and most private white sandy beaches in Matei, with the best snorkeling on the island just moments from entering the water. Our kayak offers the opportunity to explore the 3 miles of reef and snorkeling to the left of us and discover a few more nearby deserted white sandy beaches that are only accessible by sea.

Fishing The Reel Joker-21 foot Fiberglass Center Console with 115hp Yamaha, meets USCG safety standards. The boat is soft riding and provides a great casting platform for light tackle casting and fly-fishing and is equally capable of pursuing Big Game Fish. Your Capt. John Llanes has 30 years of international professional charter experience. The boat is equipped with GPS, VHF, 4 rod holders, 30, 50, and 80 Internationals, 2 stand up belts..
