The Cottages central location allows easy driving access to urban centers of Seattle and Portland or easy day trips to Mt. Rainier National Park, Mt. St. Helen's, Goat Rocks wilderness area, ocean beaches and the Olympic National Park and the Columbia River and Gorge. You can swim, fish or enjoy boating and whitewater rafting or kayaking activities. White Pass ski area in close by. Tranquil Creek Side Retreat This charming one bedroom creek side cottage overlooks Elk Creek just outside the small rural town of Doty, Washington in Washington State's 'Volcano Country.' Doty still boasts that is has one of the few remaining 'real' country stores in the state. The Doty Store comes complete with a front porch, wood floors, a 'postage stamp' sized post office and penny candy. This upper Chehalis River valley offers striking views of Mt.Rainier and the surrounding Willapa Hills which are densely forested and home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife including Bald Eagles which 'fish the creek'. Elk Creek s one of the few remaining pristine fishing streams that meanders down the lush volcanic valleys of SW Washington.
Explore the rich diversity of 'Volcano Country' The cottage is located 18 miles west of chehalis in SW Washington near Rainbow Falls State Park on Scenic Byway #6. The park, only 2 miles away from the cottage, has miles of trails through old growth forest, great swimming holes, picnic shelters, baseball diamond and swings for the 'kid in you.' Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, ocean beaches and the Columbia River Gorge are close enough for short day trips by car and it is less then two hour drive to the urban centers of Seattle or Portland. Also along Byway #6 you can visit the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad's steam train for a nostalgic ride along the Chehalis River. Take a leisurely bike ride along miles of country roads and visit the neighboring town of Dryad the site of an 1890's ghost town just a half miles away. Fish for Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout from the deck of the cottage or visit the fish ladder at the falls just a few steps away to observe salmon as they migrate up-stream in the spring and fall.
Attractions Visit the charming downtown's of the Twin Cities (Chehalis-Centralia) and browse the abundant antique malls in Centralia. Drive the Jackson Hwy and dine at Mary McCrank's landmark dinner house for real home cooking served family style. Spend a lively afternoon or evening at McMenamins Olympic Club in Centralia enjoying live entertainment, great food and some of the region's best micro-brewery beers. No where else in Washington can you visit so many unique attractions all in one region. From the awesome power of Mt.St. Helens and majestic views of Mt. Skiing Information: The Crystal Mountain and White River Ski areas are closer to the Sunrise side of Mt. Rainier. Crystal Mountain Ski Area offers a variety of recreational opportunities including horseback rides, a disc golf course and more than 35 miles of mountain bike trails. The White Pass Ski located close to the Paradise side of Mt.Rainer offers both downhill and cross country skiing. Mt. Rainier has some of the best back country and mountaineering cross country ski trails in the region.
