Years ago the National Geographic Society named Lake Vermilion 'one of the Top 10 most beautiful lakes in the country'. This Canadian shield lake was formed by glaciers and offers excellent fishing, natural, rocky shoreline and 365 islands. It is 40 miles wide and over 40,000 acres which makes it Minnesota's 5th largest lake. The Lake Vermilion area really gives you the feeling of stepping back in time, much of the lake is undeveloped and the towns are small and charming.
