San Miguell de Allende is a beautiful colonial town located in the state of Guanajuato--the hub of the Mexican revolution of 1810. For years it has attracted artists and is filled with galleries and workshops. There are two major art institutes with classes in the visual arts, weaving, musical instruments, etc. Mexican folk art abounds in the shops in town. Dining ranges from an empanada from a street vendor to exquisite cuisine in the many excellent restaurants. Hot springs are a nearby attraction, as well as the nearby towns of Guanajuato, Queretero, and Dolores Hidalgo (pottery center).
