The property is located on the ocean, in the Hulls Cove neighborhood, in the Town of Bar Harbor, the largest and most historic community on Mount Desert Island, in 'Downeast' Coastal Maine. Location The property is located within the Town of Bar Harbor. Specifically, it is located on a private road (Lookout Point Road) owned by perhaps a dozen residents. It is an historic and elegant neighborhood. Lookout Point Road overlooks Hulls Cove and Frenchmans Bay. Our property begins at a walled entrance on that road, and then slopes down through white oaks and Maine pines to the house iteslf. The house fronts on the ocean. It faces directly south toward: the oncoming sea breezes, the Town harbor and its boat basin, and the cruise-line ship traffic which moors in view from the house. The views from the house also include the Cadillac Mountain range, the Porcupine Islands, Egg Rock lighthouse in the distance, and the North Atlantic beyond. Lookout Point Road joins Route 3, the main highway connecting the mainland with Mount Desert Island, which includes Bar Harbor, 3 other towns, and the predominant Acadia National Park.
Additional information Acadia National Park comprises tens of thousands of acres of walking trails, lakes, ponds, and both salt water and fresh water beaches for swimming and fishing. The gateway to the Park is one mile from our property. Acadia is the 2nd most-visited on the National Parks because Bar Harbor and the Island are considered among the most beautiful places in North America. Beyond the gateway, and still traveling south on Route 3 along the cliffs above the ocean, one encounters the Bar Harbor Yacht Club (visible from our property across Hulls Cove), then to a collection of hotels and resorts that include the Town's best restaurants and bars and athletic facilities (e.g., the Regency), and then to the 100-year old manisons on West Street and to Main Street's commercial areas.
Background The house is 35 years old. A local architect oversaw the building of the house for a NYC socialite with formal entertaining in mind. We have owned the property for more than 30 years. We have been renting it for 12 years, It is one of the best rental properties on the Downeast Coast. The property was renovated in 2005 - 2006, and further improved this Spring. Main features include 4 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom; 4 new French doors, including two with views overlooking the ocean from upper story bedrooms; 3 fireplaces; 2 outside decks; immediate frontage on the ocean; a rocky beach leading to a sand beach; and what Frank Sinatra would call a 'summer wind'. We do not usually involve brokers. We do not advertise extensively. We are routinely sold out well in advance of the season. This is a luxury-home, turnkey arrangement. Tenants coming to the property need not bring anything with them. A housekeeper fully prepares the house and greets the tenant at the door.
Golf Information: The nearby Kebo Valley Club is available to the public. The fabled 'Kebo' is stunningly beautiful, historic, and challenging.
