Le Chateau du Val Hébert is steeped in history, built by the Abbé Hébert in 1784. It is a beautiful retreat which has retained its original features, 15ft high ceilings and windows, its fireplaces and floors. The high walled gardens hold tranquility and privacy where the original chapel, cider house still stand..It is a family home of beauty and peace yet with all the attractions and mod cons for a modern family. The upstairs gallery is designed as an open space for meditation/yoga/dance artists' space with splendid views and light. Within an hour's drive from the Normandy beaches, Ouistreham, Deauville and Honfleur,2hrs from Paris , Mont St Michel Falaise. The countryside, cuisine and ancient markets, churches , castles and fairs make it an ideal and original holiday suitable for all age groups and tastes.

Cooking is still regarded as a high art form here in Calvados, as there are the finest raw materials and food to work with. There is simplicity and excellence in flavour and choice. A guide to the markets and and a cook to show and cater can be arranged to take you round and give tips and instructions and make an interesting option for the 'fin gourmet'. All the local specialities can be found in the colourful markets, on harbour quaysides or in village squares
Historical background William the Conqueror's birthplace is 10 minutes drive, the Bayeux Tapestry 30. Everywhere there are superb examples of Romanesque architecture -most of the county's 800 abbeys and churches were built nearly a thousand years ago. The historian will find a wealth of events to discover on the Chateau's doorstep.
