Things to do in Western Carolina

There are a variety of activities in the Murphy area. Visit the John Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, ride the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad ( a beautiful trip any time of the year) in Bryson City. Feeling adventurous, just a short 15 minute scenic drive from the cabin is the Ocoee River (Class 4v and 5 rapids), site of the 1996 Olympic whitewater rafting event. The Nantahala River also offers whitewater rafting with class 2 and 3 rapids. Hike one of our many forests or fish our beautiful lakes and rivers. Horseback riding is offered in several stables along with other outdoor activities. Rent a pontoon boat in Lake Hiawassee, or a jet ski in Lake Blue Ridge. Visit the fabulous Harrahs Cherokee Casino in nearby Cherokee, NC

Day Trips

The following are trips you can take to one of the cities in the area. Chattanooga, Tn is a scenic and lovely 90 minute drive and offers the world famous Lookout mountain and Ruby Falls. Asheville, NC is also a scenic 90 minute drive and it has the Vanderbilt Mansion along with other attractions. Gatlingburg is a lovely and beautiful town in Tn. where the activities are endless. Helen Ga is a gorgeous German town. Atlanta, Ga is only 2 hours away. The Chamber of Commerce building west of Downtown Murphy has all the brochures you need to make your trip an unforgettable experience.

Locals

Murphy is a small town where there is no traffic and the people are friendly. There are the normal fast food establishments and a Walmart for all your groceries. Country restaurants offering real southern cooking are also located in the area. The Saturday Flea market is an excellent opportunity to purchase some antiques, nick knacks and other gifts at reasonable prices. Come and enjoy this area in our beautiful cabin.

Smoky Mountain National Park

Just a ninety minute scenic drive from the cabin is the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, one of the most visited National Parks in our country. Spectacular views and fabulous mountain scenery, along with beautiful waterfalls await the outdoor enthusiasts in all of us. Hike one the the National Parks many trails and feel the fresh mountain air as it invigorates you. The Great Smokies are an experience and should be visited by all who stay in the area. Don't miss this opportunity. The Park ends in Gatlinburg, Tn, a small town but with all the amenities of a tourist village, with shopping, bars and other activities.

The Carolina Outdoors

when you come to the Carolina Mountains, you will experience all the fabulous outdoor activities this area has to offer. Start with the whitewater rafting in one of our famous rivers, the Ocooe (a short 15 minute drive from the cabin) or the Nantahala, with smaller class 2 and 3 rapids. Go fishing in one of our rivers, lakes and streams. There are numerous stables in the Murphy area in which you can go horse back riding. Hiking is always fun in the Nantaha forest, Mountain biking is also an option. Enjoy the beautiful waterfalls of our area and the fresh mountain air that only Murphy has. This area is truly an outdoors men's paradise.
