Cape Breton Island is the setting for Longfellow's compelling story of Evangeline about the Deportation of the French Acadians in the Eighteenth century. The story continues for the people of Cheticamp when they bartered with their prison guards to be returned to their land for fifty years of indentured servitude. You live history here, not only of the Acadians and MicMac First Nation People, but also the French, Scotts and Irish, whose ships found the land and whose people stayed. Enjoy generations of fishing, fine acadian food, dance and the best fiddling, also museums, golf, tennis and elegant Canadian Pacific Hotels, and the best hiking and scenery.
