  • In 2010 we will host retreats and provide food by prior arrangement at extra cost, so plan w/us.
  • This large home can accommodate more people, thus taking the overall rate down when figured per person. We have overflow home and a cabin available, so we can make your family vacation or friendship group vacation very affordable. Consider us for retreats for yoga, meditation, Nia, dance, arobics, bird-watchers, cooking classes etc.
  • The rates are based on occupancy of two adults. Add $25 per adult per night, and $10 per child under 12 years of age per night. Holiday rates are $2,150 per week (one week minimum) for occupancy of up to six adults (Christmas and New Years).
    We give 10% off to prior guests, so visit us again and save money!

  • Our queen-sized 4-post beds are surrounded by no-see-um netting and are tall and comfortable, with 400+ thread-count sheets. Personal fans and lights for reading are attached to the posts in the beds. The bedrooms have lockable doors and have closet units for your luggage and hanging clothes. Bathrooms are right outside of bedrooms. The main upstairs bathroom has a large shower with rain-water-like shower-head, and a view to outdoors, yet good privacy. The downstairs shower is an outdoor shower attached to the house, so can also be used when coming off the beach. Both have hot water. The main dining table seats eight people comfortably, and the island in the kitchen has 4 swivel stools for enjoyment of group cooking and visiting. The kitchen sink has hot water. The porch below is equipped with hammocks and has a breezeway for great afternoon napping. It also have a hand-washing sink.

We cannot speak for the rain-forest as a low allergen environment, but it appears that it is. The house is all hardwood surfaces, which would contribute to low-allergen status. There are no carpets or harmful insulation. We are totally off the grid with well water, solar power and sea breezes for air comfort. The chest-type refrigerator is solar powered. Our grounds are beautifully planted and manicured, but the rain-forest jungle is right outside the yard, and the monkeys come right into the trees on site. We have many kinds of fruit growing on site including mango, papaya, coconut, pineapple, guava, bananas, limes, breadfruit, avocado, cacao and many more. Our equipment includes an ocean kayak, two boogie boards, and also an outdoor grill.

Wildlife Refuge Area We have experienced the Matapalo area to be a natural wildlife refuge. This is because of the abundance of wildlife populating this area. It is also one of the most diverse rainforest ecosystems on our planet. Because the area remains unspoiled by man, it has become a refuge for animals that are endangered as well as exotic. In this special environment one can take advantage of yoga classes, Soul Rhythm classes (like Nia), volunteer programs with schools, environmental groups, wildlife rescue and more. Ask owners about these opportunities.

You don't have to leave the house to view gorgeous sunrises, monkeys of four varieties, birds of a multitude of species including toucans, scarlet macaws, hawks, wild turkeys, and butterflies, including the blue morpho butterfly. Our big open-air windows let you have a close relationship to jungle life. Sunrises are worth waking up for. Just sit up in your bed and you can view out to the East, the water, Gulf Dulce and the mountains in Panama across the Gulf.

Beach exploration brings interesting discoveries of rocks, shells, reptiles (iguanas and other lizards) amphibians, sea crabs, river life, tide pools, birds (pelicans are plentiful), sea-faring vessels, trees and vegetation, ever-changing beaches with tidal changes up to nine feet. Fishing from the beach often results in bounty from the sea!
