Things To do Hike Nature Conservancy trails. Attend local and nearby events: 4th of July Jonesport-Beals lobsterboat races; Machias Wild Blueberry Festival and Blue Hill Fair. Listen to chamber music in nearby Machias. View puffins and murres on visits to the outer islands. Bring your sailboat or motorboat and use our mooring (boat launch nearby). Bring your kayak or canoe and launch from the boat landing below the house. Search for antiques. Visit FDR’s Campobello home. Fish for trout in nearby lakes. Pick blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, and gooseberries. Or just sit on the deck from dawn to dusk and enjoy watching the sunrise; the lobstermen pulling their traps with the seagulls circling their boats; eagles, hawks and all manner of ducks and waterfowl; seals sunning themselves on the rocks. Listen to the early morning birdsong and watch nearby islands change their shapes as the large tides rise and fall. And at the end of the day, enjoy the moon rise and the loons’ songs.
