  • Make our house 'YOUR Vineyard Vacation Home. Included are island-wide calling, utilities, complete furnishings, dishes, silverware, picnic tables, etc. and normal cleaning at no additional cost. See DETAILS page for a complete listing. Each room has been personally decorated by a Bowers family member to have its own character. Linens are available from a local delivery service or you may bring your own. The house has 6 beds: 3 Twin, 2 Queen and 1 double in 5 bedrooms, comfortably sleeping up to 9 people.

    Have your meals inside, at the Dining Room Table or the circular Picnic Table on the Covered Porch. There's Also a Smaller Table, Seating 4. (The children can have their own table!)

  • In addition to the showers in the downstairs bathroom and laundry room, there is an old-fashioned 1950 'claw-foot' tub on the 2nd floor for that bubble bath or soak you've long promised yourself, or for giving little ones a bath.

Phones are located in the 'Southwest' Bedroom and the living room.

Suggested access for the elderly or infirm: The usual entry door to the house is 2 steps up from the breezeway into the kitchen, 1st floor. On that level, there is one bedroom with a double bed. The nearest bathroom is one step up from the 1st floor. The other 4 bedrooms are on the 2nd floor with another bathroom.

Bringing A Car With You? A ferry reservation is required to bring a car to Martha's Vineyard Island. We suggest booking space for your car ASAP. They operate between Woods Hole on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. Check-in time at our home is after 4pm, and check-out is by 11am. If you choose to leave your car on the mainland, there is a calendar-day charge of about $12 at most ferry ports. Passenger-only ferries operate from Woods Hole, Falmouth and New Bedford, MA and Quonset Point, RI. You may also fly to the Vineyard: Call CapeAir or go to their website. We provide an excellent Island map for our guests. A great, inexpensive bus system connects with the airport, ferry terminals, our house and most points on the Island. 1-, 3- and 7-day passes are available on board any bus at deep discounts. Longer term passes may be purchased at 2 Island locations. There are also bikes to rent near both ferry terminals. Bike Trails? One of the many bike paths, goes by the house.

Public Transportation makes a car less necessary. We use the local bus system, with a stop close to the house. Fares are simple to understand (just $1 per town travelled) and deeply-discounted passes are sold onboard any bus. One example of the savings: a round-trip to Aquinnah (Gay Head) is $10.00, while a 1-day pass costs just $6. A 3-day pass is $15 and a 7-day is just $25. Do you want to have a car with you, but can't get a boat reservation? On-Island car rental agencies include the big names as well as some local ones. Contact them at their websites or toll-free numbers. Car rental rates on the Vineyard are higher than on the Mainland.

More Vineyard Info The Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce (mvy.com) is located near both ferry terminals: Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven (Tisbury). We can also recommend the Vineyard Gazette and Martha's Vineyard Times newspapers, available at the Vineyard Haven Cumberland Farms and at Pharmacies and newspaper stores in most towns. There are several free publications about Island happenings, you may pick up on the ferries, at the terminals and in various stores on The Vineyard.

Golf Information: Public golf courses are located in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. The nearest, Farm Neck, Oak Bluffs, is less than a mile from the house. Vineyard Haven also has miniature golf with home-made ice cream on the premises.
