Other nearby attractions are a ferry to Monhegan Island perhaps the most beautiful of Maine's islands. Great shops and restaurants. Lighthouses and parks. Boating and swimming and lots of lobster. Whale watching and puffin boat rides. Helicopter, glider and plane rides. Lakes for swimming and boating. Mountains at the each of the sea for climbing. Acadia Natl. Park, the nations second most popular park is about two hrs. away. New England's largest only botanical coastal gardens are nearby.

Spectacular Beauty If you are looking for the authentic Maine experience, this area has it. The Rockland-Thomaston area is the entry point to Penobscot Bay, perhaps the most scenic body of water on the eastern seaboard. Here you'll find scores of islands, a dozen historic lighthouses, and quite little harbors filled with working lobster boats. Ospreys and bald eagles nest high in the spruces along the rugged shores, puffins make the islands their homes, deer browse the open fields, moose forage the wetlands, and harbor seals make their annual pilgrimage to quite coves.
