Further Details for the chalet in North Carolina Mountains, North Carolina, USA
Places you've heard about You can visit the Great Smokies National Park or even go gambling at Harrah's Casino in Cherokee. A short drive takes you to the Biltmore House and Gardens or the Mast General Store in Waynesville. Chalet at Sawyer Creek is located so conveniently for all the things people come to the mountains for. You're a few miles away from the Great Smokies Railroad, horseback riding, tubing at Deep Creek or whitewater rafting on the Nantahala. In an hour or so, you can even be in Dollywood. This part of the Smokies is just being discovered. With over 80% of Graham County national forest, you'll never feel crowded. We also have some great venues for those folks who would like to experience Appalachian music, clogging, or mountain comedy. Whether you want to see waterfalls or excitement, Chalet at Sawyer Creek has it all.
Places you might not have heard about The Cherohala Skyline is like the Blue Ridge Parkway with one major difference...not so many gawking tourists or traffic. This skyline joins North Carolina with Tennessee and has some of the most beautiful, high altitude vistas in the Smokies. At the North Carolina end of the Cherohala, is the Joyce Kilmer National Forest. You can hike the many trails and visit virgin forest lands as old as the country itself. Not far from Joyce Kilmer is Lake Santeetlah, a pristine, clear mountain lake. Rent a pontoon boat and try your hand at fishing. It's an awesome way to spend the day. If you own a motorcycle, try riding the Tail of the Dragon with more mountain curves than you can count. If you like mountain biking, Tsali, which is a few minutes away, has four awesome trails overlooking Lake Fontana. You're in a part of the Smoky Mountains that is often called North Carolina's best kept secret. Visit and you'll agree.
More Things to Do You can hike right along the Appalachian Trail; it's a few minutes down the road. You can go whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, Ocoee, and more. You can ride a horse along the Fontana Lake region. You can visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can tube at Deep Creek. There are waterfalls to view, and the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Cherohala Skyline are both close by. Enjoy the virgin forest at Joyce Kilmer. See Cades Cove or drive down the Meadow Road to peek in the windows of log cabins from yester year. The Great Smokies Railroad is right in Bryson City. Hop aboard! Try a little fly fishing in the numerous streams. Rent a pontoon boat and relax on Lake Santeetlah. Drive along mountains roads to find artist galleries galore, visit an auction right out of the fifties, or discover a hidden little out-of-the-way spot all your own for a picnic in paradise. Saturday night? Go for some mountain music at the Stecoah Center. What a great vacation!
