Further Details for the house in Maine, USA
About the house... The house is waterfront property. You can walk to the beach from the oceanside lawn (No streets or roads to cross). The house is located on a dead end road. Although it is not isolated, there are only a relatively small number of single family homes, and there are no commercial activities in the vicinity. It is single story (no stairs). Two bedrooms with a bathroom in the hallway are located on one side of the LR. The third bedroom with an attached bathroom is on the other side of the LR. This allows a greater degree of privacy, if desired. The inside was repainted early 2007 and the outside was repainted late 2007. Much of the furniture was replaced in 2007. Bathroom updates (new toilettes and sinks/faucets and redoing the floors) will be completed before the 2008 rental season.
Crescent Beach, Owls Head The beach is a rare (for Maine) sandy beach. The tides can be as much as 14-feet vertical. From the house you can see islands on West Penobscot Bay. These include Sheep, Monroe, Fishermans, Vinalhaven, Marble Head, and Ash. The Mussel Ridge Islands are just several miles away. It is an ideal setting for those who enjoy a more interesting ocean view. It is especially ideal for those who have a small boat or wish to kayak. I provide a two person kayak (16-foot Old Town Loon) subject to several restrictions. Kayaks can also be rented from local stores. The beach has a gradual slope into the water and unless there is a storm, the waves are gentle.
About the area.... Within couple minutes drive is the town of Owls Head consisting of an excellent general store, post-office, operating light house, and commercial lobster pier. The general store provides breakfast, lunch, and pizzas for the casual evening meal. About 15 minutes away is Rockland. It retains the charm of an older waterfront town. It has excellent restaurants, an assortment of stores day-to-day needs or for the special souvenirs and fine gifts), the Wythe museum, ferries and rental boats for off-shore trips, the Rockland lighthouse, lighthouse museum, cafes, bookstores and supermarket. Another 15 minutes north is Camden. It also has a good selection of restaurants and stores. Most of the vintage schooners depart from either Rockland or Camden. Just north of Camden is a state park for those who want to hike up Mt Megunticook for a good view of the Penobscot Bay. In the same park is Mt Battie if you prefer driving up.
