Old Orchard Beach is a fine example of this all-inclusive phenomenon. Seven miles of inviting shoreline will certainly serve as the centerpiece to this vacation – it’s hard to ignore the steady surf, the mesmerizing panoramic views and the hum of relaxed excitement that the town, and Maine in general, are so good at inciting.


When you’re not reclining on a beach towel or strolling in search of the perfectly delicious (and devilish) snack, you could be playing your favorite old arcade game, people-watching to your heart’s content, or secretly plotting an adult outing to take place after the kids are tucked into bed.


Nearby attractions fit for the whole family include miniature golf, Palace Playland, kayak tours, and special events like the Ocean Park Music Festival. The towns of Saco and Kennebunkport aren’t too far away, so a little day trip could easily fall into place.


Old Orchard Beach is actually a fine place to visit any time of the year. Locals love the quieter spring and fall, so follow their example and enjoy the still-lovely outdoors – even if it means pulling on a sweater as the sun goes down.


Choose a vacation rental that maximizes your surroundings; it’ll probably be an oceanside house or a cabin nestled in the woods, but you can also go for convenience as well by situating yourself near the pier, the golf course or even the shops.
