Bourbon Street is known for its happening jazz clubs, piano bars, and blues venues, not to mention festivals like Mardi Gras. Stay in a slick downtown condo rental and be close to the action. Catch a show at the renowned House of Blues or unwind with a Hurricane at Pat O’Brien’s Irish Pub. If tossed beads and frat boys aren’t your scene, travel down the river to Frenchmen Street in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. This four-block stretch of bars and coffee shops is where the local hipsters hang out. Grab a table and blend in!

After shopping, eating, and drinking, you may be aching for a good dose of culture which Louisiana has plenty of to offer. If the kids are in tow, take them to the Toy Museum in Bernice or the Louisiana Children’s Museum in New Orleans – the exhibits are interactive so you won’t have to hear any bored complaints. If you didn’t bring the kids, head to one of the art museums - Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, or the Alexandria Museum of Art in Alexandria. If art isn’t your bag, travel to Monroe and check out the Northeast Louisiana African American Heritage Museum.

Nature-lovers will enjoy the Aquarium of the Americas and the world-class Audubon Zoo. Or travel outside of New Orleans and enjoy a rustic vacation rental elsewhere in Louisiana, perhaps in Slidell or the Barataria Basin.
