Fairmont Hot Springs: So Much Fun in British Columbia

Fairmont Hot Springs, located in southeast British Columbia, Canada is the perfect choice for a four-season vacation destination. With the majestic Canadian Rockies and the Columbia River as a backdrop, the resort area offers active fun, fine dining, relaxing spa treatments, and great postcard perfect photo opportunities of the Great Outdoors. Relaxation has been a part of the area since the 1880s, when explorers dubbed the region the "land of smoking waters" for the many hot springs bubbling over with the soothing powers of sulphur. Eco-tourists can be comforted by the fact that the resort has received a "Power Smart Green Hotel" designation, having met a series of environmentally friendly standards. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy themselves as they include hiking, cycling, fishing, swimming, golf, skiing, white-water rafting, and even sun bathing in their day's itinerary.

Fairmont Hot Springs offers seemingly endless opportunities for enjoying Mother Nature. The surrounding Canadian Rockies offer literally hundreds of miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts. There are also knowledgeable guides at the Fairmont Stables available if you would like to traverse the mountains on horseback. Fishing enthusiasts regard the area as a mother lode of angling opportunities. The many rivers, lakes and streams that are available in the Columbia Valley are teeming with rainbow and brook trout, small mouth bass, kokanee, and many other species. If you are into canoeing and kayaking, you have just reached paddling heaven. The Kootenay, Spillimacheen, Lussier, and White Rivers are close at hand for self-propelled or white-water rafting excursions.

If teeing it up is your favorite way of relaxing during your vacation, Fairmont has two championship courses waiting to test your skills. The Mountainside Golf Course is lined with pine and spruce trees, and has incredible views of the surrounding mountains. One of the longest courses in the Pacific Northwest, the course's signature hole is the par 5 4th hole, nicknamed the "Fairmonster" due to its incredible 600 + yards length. You can also try your luck on the Riverside Course, named Canada's Golf Course of the Year in 1998. The course twists and turns following the roaming Columbia River. Known for its outstanding greens and exceptional condition, Riverside will challenge low handicappers without intimidating less-skilled golfers. If you want to practice your short game, Fairmont also has Creekside, a 9-hole par 3 course.

When the winter's chill hits the Columbia Valley, people flock to the area for all the alpine activities available. The Fairmont Ski Area is a full-service slope servicing skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels. Thirteen runs are spread evenly between novice, intermediate, and advanced skiers. Boarders can enjoy a terrain park and a newly-built half pipe. There are also plenty of trails for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing practitioners. Fairmont is also a convenient location for enjoying some of the other alpine areas. The Panorama Ski Area is only 40 minutes north, while the Kimberley Ski Resort is about an hour south.

The Fairmont Hot Springs Resort has something to offer every vacationing taste. Loosen those tired muscles in one of the spas that provide all sorts of soaking options. The kids will enjoy the swimming and diving pools, located in the same area as the hot tubs. Head north for a day trip in the beautiful Kootenay National Park. For the ultimate view of the area, soar over the Rockies in either a fixed-wing airplane or a hot-air balloon. From relaxing by the pool to teeing off in the shadows of the mountains, Fairmont Hot Springs is the idyllic place for a Canadian vacation.
