Though no fault of it’s own, certain adjectives are overused in Maine. Charming, quaint, peaceful and scenic are a few that often find themselves tossed around here in Ogunquit; you probably won’t find this phenomenon annoying, however, as the words fit and so do you. Not that you won’t discover a few new things for yourself, but as far as the clichés go, there are worse things to befall a vacation.


Meaning “beautiful place by the sea” (not exactly the most original name, is it?), Ogunquit is located on the Southern Coast of Maine between York Beach and Kennebunkport; this region is a true vacationland, as it combines the spectacular shoreline with the nearby woodsy landscape. Dip your toes into the salty sea, explore the coastline in a kayak, take a hike in the hills or stay civilized and do some shopping in one of the towns.


To do things right you’ll want to settle into a vacation home. The cottages and cabins in these parts will probably stir up more of those familiar descriptions (“cute” and “cozy” come to mind), but is that really a bad thing? The bottom line is that you’ll need a comfortable place to spend your down time and deserve to have a convenient set of amenities, thus choosing a rental property is the best way to go.


Everything easily falls into place once you’ve set your sights on Ogunquit, as you‘ll soon see. Work on coming up with some new words for how fabulous it all is if you want to, or just let yourself rely on the old classics – there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
