Located about 25 miles south of San Diego, this is a fun spot that feels slightly removed from the hubbub yet close enough to the city to sneak in a night on the town. You’ll enjoy the low-key vibes of this destination as you wander from Leucadia, an older area with big trees, funky boutiques and plenty of restaurants, to newer areas known for golf courses, high-end retail and flashy houses. Magnetic to celebrities and regular vacationers just like you, Encinitas has the power to please just about everyone.

Visit Quail Botanical Gardens for a dazzling display of bamboo and then hit Swami’s Beach, a famous surf spot that will prove equally impressive (nothing beats checking out a bunch of buff surfer dudes). Stop by the San Dieguito Historical Museum or La Paloma Theatre to find a sense of the past, but don’t be surprised if the six miles of coastline ends up stealing away most of your attention.

The weather in Encinitas is mild (average temperature is a very lovely 72 degrees) and the scent of flowers hangs in the air (this is a major producer of decorative plants like poinsettias), so you’re sure to be charmed as you indulge in a couple days of pampering, exploring and catching up with a good friend.
