Snowshoe, West Virginia is one of the most popular four-season resorts on the East Coast. Long known for its impressive skiing, the resort is also developing the reputation as a must-see when the snows melt and the flowers bloom. Whether it's drinking hot chocolate by a roaring fire or sipping ice tea by the pool, Snowshoe has something for every vacationer in every season. A day in Snowshoe can include hiking, sailing, kayaking, mountain biking, golf, skiing, snowboarding, sleigh riding, or just about any other activity you can imagine!

Winter still reigns supreme on the mountain. The mountain averages over 180 inches of snow per year, making the start-up time one of the earliest in the nation. Fourteen lifts whisk visitors to 57 trails, most of which can accommodate all skill levels. Adrenaline junkies will want to check out the "Western Territory" portion of the mountain, home to the famous Cupp Run. This is where the most advanced skiers and snowboarders go to play, enjoying the 1500 ft. vertical drop and "mountain sized" moguls. Snowshoe has a famous ski and snowboarding school, and can also accommodate physically challenged skiers.

For some après ski fun, be sure to visit Snowshoe Village, nestled on top of the mountain. This conglomeration of 17 restaurants and bars, a dozen or so specialty shops, swimming pools, and gaming areas is the perfect spot to enjoy a post-ski meal, or watch the Alleghany sunshine dip behind the mountains while nursing a warm beverage. The village buzzes with a rustic, mountain top atmosphere, and lends a home town feel to your vacation experience.

When the summer sun begins to warm the mountain, the same trails that host skiers and snowboarders extend a welcoming invitation to hikers and mountain bikers. "Forever Wild" is the adopted motto and serves as a mantra for all those who want to explore Mother Nature, Snowshoe style. If you would rather view the mountain on horseback, Snowshoe offers riding tours and introductory horseback lessons. There are also all terrain vehicle (ATV) tours available for those who want leave the trails behind and go off road.

Snowshoe is also blessed with one of the most popular golf courses in the United States. The Raven Golf Club has been mentioned in lists of the top US courses by both Golf Digest and Golf Week magazines. The course was designed by Gary Player and offers a stern test of golfing skills set against a backdrop of gorgeous mountain scenery. The fairways undulate with the contour of the mountain, and the streams that trickle through the course add to both the beauty and the difficulty of the course.

The highest beach in elevation on the east coast also belongs to Snowshoe Mountain. Shaver Lake, located on the basin side of the mountain, provides relaxing adventure for the entire family. The clear water offers excellent opportunities for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking while the wilderness offers gentle hiking trails which will guide you around the lake. A playground for the kids and hammocks for the parents create an ideal summer escape.
