About Cape Cod Rentals
Cape Cod, Massachusetts is a vacation paradise that juts out 40 miles into the Atlantic Ocean. During the summer, the island swells as millions of visitors seek out the ample waves, but during the rest of the year, the number of tourists dwindles to a mere trickle. If your idea of a vacation on Cape Cod involves plopping down a towel and pulling out a novel, then you won't be disappointed as there are over 100 beaches on the island. If you want a more active vacation, Cape Cod can accommodate. A day's itinerary can include fishing, sailing, golf, parasailing, bicycling, hiking, shopping, sight-seeing, and any number of outdoor pursuits.
One of the most interesting communities on the cape is Provincetown, which sits on the northeast corner of the island. Once a prominent fishing port, the town took on an artistic flavor starting around the turn of the century. Today the town is filled with eclectic shops, top-notch galleries, gourmet restaurants, amazing beaches, and historical museums. One such museum is the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, where the works of notable Provincetown artists is displayed.
In Cape Cod, over 100 beaches of every description await sun worshipers, sea shellers, and beach combers. Sandy Neck Beach, near Sandwich, is popular due to its 6-miles of silky soft sand and for the endangered piping plovers (birds) that come to nest there. The beach offers a 360 degree view of the ocean and hiking trails that wind their way through the dunes. Cape Cod National Seashore, located on the Outer Cape, is 27,000 acres of stunningly beautiful beaches, 60-foot sand dunes, steep cliffs, salt ponds, and woodland areas. Surfers have staked a claim at Coast Guard Beach, which is just one of the beaches in the seashore area. Hardings Beach, in South Cape, is a popular neighborhood beach and is a great spot for kids of all ages. Another family beach is Falmouth Heights Beach in Falmouth. Wide swaths of sand, accompanied by glorious mansions overlooking the beach, make the for a visual spectacle.
The waters of Cape Cod offer some of the best striped bass fishing in the world. There is excellent fishing in many of the fresh water ponds near Chatham. Falmouth has six fishable ponds, but if you are looking for big game, there are numerous charter boats available to take you out looking for tuna, bluefish, and false albacore.
Cape Cod is located right in the migratory pattern of over 300 species of birds. One of the best places to view them is at the Ashumet Holly & Wildlife Sanctuary in East Falmouth. Named for its different varieties of holly, the preserve was a gift to the Audubon Society by Wilfred Wheeler. This is a place for exploring as if you were in the wild since the setting is natural and devoid of any manicured gardens.
"A man may stand there and put all America behind him," wrote Henry David Thoreau of Cape Cod. Even in the 19th century, Cape Cod was the place to go to get away from the stresses of daily life. Things have grown up a bit since Thoreau visited, of course, but the spirit he invoked remains the same. Visitors still feel an unrelenting urge to escape to the Cape. The waves roll in and clog their memory of all the toil of the outside world. That is the cape's subtle appeal. Feel the need to escape?
