About Illinois Vacation Rentals

Chicago, Illinois is famous for many things. There is the Chicago moniker “the windy city,” which comes from the wind whipping off of Lake Michigan. There is the thriving music scene that blues men like B.B. King and Muddy Waters brought attention to. And there are the famous museums that every individual must visit at least once. Vacationing in Chicago is a foray into an artistic and cultural center where there are numerous attractions and activities to keep any individual occupied for days on end.

Chicago is the cultural center of the Midwest with over 100 museums dedicated to displaying a wide array of historical and artistic achievements. One of the most prominent is the Art Institute of Chicago, which is one of the most prolific museums in the world with a permanent collection of over 300,000 objects. Some of the most famous works include A Sunday Afternoon on La Grand Jatte--1884 by Georges Seurat and Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. The Museum Campus is a scenic 57-acre lakefront park that connects three of Chicago's world-class institutions: the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, The Field Museum, and the John G. Shedd Aquarium. The Campus unifies the three museums into a collective destination with more than four million visitors each year.

One-stop entertainment can be found at the newly renovated Navy Pier. Located on Lake Michigan just East of Chicago's downtown, Navy Pier has been a Chicago landmark since it first opened in 1916. Originally designed as both a shipping and recreational facility, the Pier also served as a military training site during the two world wars. Today, the pier is full of amusements such as a carousel, an Imax Theatre, lake cruises, outdoor shops, restaurants, and the brand new Shakespeare Theatre.
