Moneta house Rental Property Information
Hickory Cove Hideaway is nestled on two private lakefront acres in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains on Smith Mountain Lake. This solid brick home is simple, but comfortable, and is located at the end of a cove, away from the main channel traffic and noise (and waves!), though close enough that it's only a five to ten minute boat ride to Hales Ford Bridge. The swimming pool is just steps from the kitchen door. Smith Mountain Lake is known for its fishing; the BassMasters tour has been here several times and has been featured on ESPN. I know they catch huge strippers (stripped bass) here, among many other species. You can fish right off the dock at the house, as this is a deep water cove, and you can catch a variety of fish, large and small. I believe one of the striper records came from one cove over....a 53 pounder!! There's a new vineyard about a mile from the house, offering tours and tastings (Hickory Hill Vineyard, which you pass on the way to the house

| Notes: | Although this property is waterfront; most of the 2 acres sits between the house and the water. You cannot see the water from the house, but you can see it from the pool deck. Still, these are not 'sweeping views' of the lake. However, the lawn is a great place to view deer in the morning and evening. It's so quiet and peaceful. Most people find they spend a great deal of time around the pool on the pool deck and back porch, unless they're out boating on the water. The property slopes down to the water, making the trek back up from the lake (about 100 yards) a bit of an effort. |
Further Details for the house in Virginia, USA
Tranquility, Seclusion, peace Most of the 2 acres sits between the house and the water, making the lake viewing possible from the pool deck, but not the house. Even then, this is not a sweeping lake view. It is, however, a sweeping view of lawn and trees, where families of deer wander and feed. It's great sitting outside in the evening on the pool deck with a cocktail, watching the deer wander by. Last year there was a large family of deer (about 6 or 7) that came by every afternoon/evening. Other wildlife frequently spotted: turkeys, fox, raccoons, great blue heron, box turtles, oppossums, woodpeckers (there's a pileated woodpecker I saw frequently last fall), and more. The tranquility of this home will draw you in, and you may just find yourselves turning off the TV and enjoying the sounds of nature and spending time with loved ones. A visit to Smith Mountain Lake can be very busy and active and social, or it can be total peace and seclusion. This is a wonderful family home and perfect for six people
Historical and celebrity status of SML: The area around Smith Mountain Lake is historic with a variety of sights to visit. The D-Day Memorial here (in Bedford) is significant for it's historic change in the course of how the military draft is done, due to the losses this small town sustained on D-day during WWII. Thomas Jefferson had a vacation property nearby called Poplar Forest, that is open to the public and replicates much of the architecture of his home in Monticello. And the road coming into the SML area is named after Booker T. Washington; a man born into slavery, but rising to complete a college education and become a great leader in bringing education to other African Americans. Other signifcant facts about SML: The movie 'What About Bob' with Bill Murray as a psych patient, and Richard Dreyfus as his psychiatrist, was filmed here.
Golf Information: I haven't golfed there yet, but have seen some of the beautiful courses. I will be leaving for Smith Mountain Lake soon (late April/early May) and plan on golfing while there. This area will be updated then.
Guest Book see online guestbook. Excerpts from the guestbook at the house will soon be printed here.
