About Louisiana Vacation Rentals

When one thinks of New Orleans, Louisiana, one naturally thinks of Mardi Gras, the annual festival that takes place from mid-February to early March and brings more than 2 million visitors to the city. But, beyond that, New Orleans is also an exciting, multi-cultural city filled with museums, restaurants, music venues, sporting events, and other attractions that make it perfect for vacationers wanting a taste of the exotic. Louisiana is referred to as a "Sportsman's Paradise" since there are numerous outdoor activities within minutes of downtown New Orleans. A day in New Orleans can include golfing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, nature tours, bicycling, and just about anything else an outdoor oriented vacationer is searching for.

For a taste of New Orleans's rich cultural heritage, be sure to visit the New Orleans Museum of Art. With over 40,000 permanent exhibits, NOMA's mission is to preserve and present a representative survey of the finest art mankind has produced from antiquity to the present. The museum houses an impressive collection by Edgar Degas, who visited his parents in New Orleans in 1871 and 1872 and painted just 20 blocks from the Museum. For an experience that blends art and nature, be sure to visit the Longue Vue House and Gardens. This Classical Revival Estate features eight acres of gardens, a Palladian style house, and outbuildings with a magnificent collection of American and English antiques, entertaining tours, and a museum store filled with items reflective of the collection.

Children of all ages will appreciate the wonders of the Audubon Park and Zoological Garden. More than 1,000 varieties of plants combine with 1,800 animals to replicate natural habitats found around the world. There are white tigers, buffalo, llamas, gorillas, tamarins, and the only white alligators known to be in existence in the world. Also, the Audubon Zoo features educational tools like a computerized exhibit which explores evolution, a learning center with a laboratory, and the only library in the Deep South dedicated solely to wildlife sciences.

Outdoor enthusiasts will relish Louisiana's title as a "Sportsmen's Paradise". Fishing charters are available to take anglers in search of redfish, sea trout, black drum, croaker, shark, and sting ray. Golfers will find courses designed by famous architects like Robert Trent Jones and driving ranges for those who want some quick practice. The Louisiana Superdome, once called one of the "man made wonders of the world", is home to the New Orleans Saints, the Tulane University football team, and the Nokia Sugar Bowl. The facility is also a full-service concert venue, hosting such notable acts as the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Jimmy Buffett.
