In winter, with an average snow fall of 409 inches, Lake Tahoe is the country's premier skiing destination. With 15 downhill resorts, and 10 cross-country centers, Lake Tahoe is a veritable winter wonderland. Activities like snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, and even sleigh riding can be a part of your winter fun. In summer, Lake Tahoe sheds its winter coat, and emerges as an excellent summer vacation destination as well. Renters can enjoy sailing, water sports, beaches, golf, rock climbing, horseback riding, bungee jumping, parasailing, camping, ballooning-the list is endless!
In the summer, the South Tahoe Shore beaches come alive with sun bathers, jet skiers, and boaters. For a great excursion, head south to majestic Yosemite National Park. Golfers will seek out both the Championship Course and the Mountain Course, located in Incline Village. If these courses are booked, there are over 20 others to choose from around Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe's deep water makes fishing a challenge. There are plenty of places for the native Rainbow, Mackinaw, and Brown trout, to hide.
Of course, the area was originally known as a skiing destination. The most famous ski resort in the area is Squaw Valley, USA, the site of the 1960 winter Olympics. Located about 6 miles northwest of Tahoe City, skiing is spread out over 6 different peaks, serviced by one of the most intricate lift systems worldwide. Heavenly Resort, located in Stateline, NV, is the largest resort in the area and 100% snowboarder friendly. And Stateline, because it is across the border into Nevada, is also home to a few Casinos for those who feel like trying their luck.

About Lake Tahoe Area Vacation Rentals
Lake Tahoe, located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and bordering both California and Nevada, is the country’s premier skiing destination in the winter with an average snow fall of 409 inches and 15 downhill resorts and 10 cross-country centers. Here, activities like snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, and even sleigh riding can be a part of your winter fun. In the summer, Lake Tahoe is as an exciting vacation destination where visitors can enjoy sailing, water sports, beaches, golf, rock climbing, horseback riding, bungee jumping, parasailing, camping, ballooning, and much more.
For perhaps the most picturesque view of the lake, check out the overlook at Emerald Bay. In addition, make sure you hike the 1 mile trek down to Vikingsholm Castle to see one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the western hemisphere.
Golf enthusiasts should head to Incline Village and play either the Championship Course or the Mountain Course since they were designed by famed golf architects Robert Trent Jones and Robert Trent Jones, Jr., respectively. However, if you cannot get a tee time at one of these courses, look into the other 20 courses around Lake Tahoe.
Also in Incline, visit the Ponderosa Ranch to see where the Cartwright family spent time while filming the television series Bonanza. The ranch contains the Cartwright house and a mock-up of an entire Old West town complete with working blacksmiths, a saloon, a shooting gallery, and even live gunfights.
If you are looking for fishing, try visiting nearby Fallen Leaf Lake for some prime bass and trout fishing since Lake Tahoe's deep water makes fishing a challenging proposition.
