Details for Saddle Tor in Devon, England

Saddle Tor is one of our newest cottages at Holwell. It has been converted from the original Threshing Barn and has a feature ground floor bedroom built in what was the old 'Round House'. This is one of the largest cottages at Holwell and boasts four large bedrooms each with kingsize beds and an ensuite shower/bathroom per bedroom. The cottage is in the upper part of the yard configuration and has parking directly outside the cottage and a garden area inside a granite wall with breathtaking views over to the famous landmark of Hay Tor. Inside, Saddle Tor has a huge open-plan kitchen/dining/living room with a central vaulted ceiling across which spans a galleried landing connecting the two upper floor bedrooms. The extensive living/dining area has a feature open fireplace. Together with Chinkwell next door, these two cottages are ideal for larger gatherings as they have their own drives and are separate from the other cottages. Between them they can accommodate up to 14.

  • All bedrooms are large enough to have an additional child's z-bed (£15 per week) or cot. The main bedroom downstairs in the round house can be a twin or double bed. One bedroom downstairs and one upstairs has an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower and the other two bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms Beds are really comfy with Egyptian cotton sheets and duvets. They are solid Welsh Oak and mattresses and pillows are of a quality to ensure you have a wonderfully comfortable sleep. Faux fur throws on all beds are an indulgent luxury; especially for Dartmoor Winters curled up with a good book ! Gaze at the stars through the skylights.

Our kitchens all feature superb range cookers from Sandiford (Aga); very simple to cook from and ideal for getting the best from the home reared Dartmoor Beef, Lamb and Pork; all available from the farm based butchery. Interiors feature exposed granite walls, sand blasted honey-coloured exposed beams and slate floors with rugs. Furniture is comfortable and built for relaxing in/on. Decor is muted and neutral to ensure the natural features of the buildings are enhanced.

Equine Activities Available from Holwell Farm Bring Your Horse On Holiday to Holwell Farm; There are 12 x loose boxes and over 500 acres of secure turn out for you to bring your horse on holiday to Holwell. The riding is incredible and you can ride all day without hitting a road or seeing a soul; bliss You can also try your hand at 'Hawking on Horseback' with our resident Falconer Or, take a trip out with the South Devon Hunt who meet in the immediate vicinity of Holwell most weeks during the season. There is also a Cross Country Course adjacent to Holwell where events are held throughout the year via the South Devon Hunt Pony Club. Holwell Farm breeds Pedigree and Heritage Dartmoor Ponies; you are welcome to view the herds if you are looking to buy a child's pony or for driving/showing. You can also participate in the annual 'Wild Pony Handling' events after the Pony Drift each Winter.

Hawking & Falconry Holwell is the perfect location to fly a wide selection of magnificent birds of prey. You can fly 1-1 with Eagles, Hawks, Falcons and Owls in this amazing natural hunting territory.

A Rich Wildlife at Holwell Holwell is a unique habitat for a wide selection of rare flora and fauna including; Lapwings, Curlews, Snipe and Woodcock. A herd of Wild Red Deer can regularly be spotted for keen stalkers. Fox and badger are prolific hunters on the farm. Wild Boar. Marsh Fritilary Butterflys and Elephant Hawk Moths are abundant in the mire. A host of unusual mosses, ferns and orchids are also in evidence throughout the year.

Golf Information: There are over 30 Golf Courses within a 25 mile radius of Holwell Farm including; Stover, Hele Park, Woodbury Park, Daignton Park, Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, Exeter Golf & Country Club, Bovey Castle.
