About Breckenridge Area Vacation House Rentals
Summit County, Colorado is the place to visit if your vacation plans include spending time in the Great Outdoors. Rich in mining history, Summit County is a four season paradise for people who enjoy an active vacation experience. A day's itinerary can include hiking, fishing, skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, snowboarding, golfing, boating, or taking a scenic gondola ride to enjoy incredible views.
Summit County is home to four of the best skiing areas in the country. Keystone Mountain provides skiers of all skill levels the opportunity to test their downhill mettle. The area's three inter-connected mountains offer over 1800 acres of skiable terrain and 22 lifts to service runs for every level. Skiers, snowboarders, and cross-country enthusiasts flock to the Breckenridge Ski Resort, which is spread out over four mountains on the town's western side. Arapahoe Basin, at 13,050 feet, sports the country's highest ski summit, which allows the resort to stay open sometimes into June. Copper Mountain, with over 2300 acres of terrain, is immense in scope and has areas broken up into beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections to give peace of mind to skiers who don't want to mistakenly find themselves on a run that is too difficult.
Visiting Summit County means exploring on foot since there are trails, from small day-hikes to treks suited only for experienced hikers, everywhere. Families enjoy the Masontown Trail, which starts near Frisco. This 1.4 mile hike (one way) takes hikers past old mining sites and through forested countryside. Another option is the scenic Mohawk Lakes Trail, which takes visitors past Mayflower Lakes and to Lower and Upper Mohawk Lakes. There is a tram located at the basin of Lower Mohawk that takes visitors on a scenic ride up the mountain.
Duffers and low handicappers will enjoy all the golf possibilities in Summit County. The Breckenridge Golf Club, designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus, is set in a beautiful valley surrounded by the Rockies. More golfing action can be had at nearby Copper Creek Golf Course, which is part of Copper Creek Resort. Designed by Pete and Perry Dye, the course offers spectacular views of the Ten Mile Range. Keystone Ranch Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., offers spectacular views that complement a difficult test of skill.
Anglers will find plenty of areas to toss in a line. The Blue River twists and turns over 45 miles through Summit County. Downstream from Breckenridge, the river meanders through an area that was dredged during the mining days. You will also find fishing heaven in Dillon Reservoir. Whether you are in a boat or casting from some point along the more than 26 miles of shoreline, you will find the reservoir teeming with fish. Green Mountain Reservoir is a popular spot if you want to catch kokanee salmon or try ice fishing.
Summit County has something for every vacationer. Music lovers will want to attend the Breckenridge Festival of Music while water lovers will want to float down the Colorado or Arkansas Rivers. History buffs can see the exhibits located in the Frisco Historic Park, or take a tour of the Country Boy Mine. If you like seeing the surroundings from the safety of your automobile, drive the Boreas Pass and the Hoosier Pass. Shoppers can find a bargain at the outlet malls in Silverthorne. Summit County will leave you with a lifetime of memories and planning your next visit!
