About San Francisco and Bay Area Vacation Rentals
Walnut Creek, California is a quiet, ecologically conscious community located in scenic Contra Costa County. The area is an outdoor lover's dream. Hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking are some of the popular methods of enjoying this gorgeous city.
Walnut Creek prides itself on its conservation efforts. The Lindsay Wildlife Museum, located in Larkey Park, displays live native California wildlife in its Exhibit Hall and operates a nationally-recognized wildlife hospital and rehabilitation center.
Check out the Borges Ranch / Shell Ridge Open Space. The former cattle ranch of early Walnut Creek pioneer Frank Borges is today the home base of Walnut Creek's Shell Ridge Open Space activities, an area dedicated to preserving the enjoyment of the great outdoors. Children can take a tour while adults can learn the subtle art of cattle ranching and volunteer with the running of the ranch during the week.
Walnut Creek is also a great spot for enjoying other California sites. The wine country is an hour and a half north and San Francisco, the beautiful "City by the Bay" is less than 30 miles to the east.
San Francisco, California has been called the most beautiful city in America. Seeing the views of the ocean, the bay, the night skyline, and the textured, multi-colored buildings of the vastly differing neighborhoods, it is easy to understand why most every street in the "City by the Bay" looks like it jumped out of a post card. A visit to San Francisco can be full of all sorts of cultural experiences. Eat Thai food; listen to an opera; see where Al Capone spent his last days; ride a cable car; visit an antique shop in the Castro district; and walk the beach in outer Richmond.
You can get acclimated to San Francisco by spending a half-day on the 49 Mile Drive. The route was set up in 1939 to assist vacationers, and it cuts a rough path around the most famous of the city's tourist sights. Marked by white and blue seagull signs, you will pass by Chinatown, Ocean Beach, Twin Peaks, Seal Rocks Beach, and Golden Gate Park. The tour is self-guided, so the day is what you make of it.
San Francisco is famous for its incredible views of the city, the bay, and the surrounding Pacific Ocean. Probably the best vantage point in the city is Coit Tower, located atop Telegraph Hill. The tower gives a 360 degree view of the entire city. You needn't pay the admission to the actual top of the tower, as the views are just as good from around the base. Inside the base, there are some excellent murals painted by various artists in the 1920s, many of whom studied under famed artist Diego Rivera.
Those with an appreciation for fine paintings, photography, and sculptures will want to pay a visit to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), located in the South of Market area. The museum houses over 15,000 works from such artists as Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, Georgia O'Keefe, and Diego Rivera. MOMA was one of the first museums to recognize photography as a serious art form. The museum exhibits photos from Ansel Adams, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston, and Henri Cartier-Benson.
Wait for a warm afternoon and take a stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge. This marvel of modern architecture is San Francisco's calling card. Feel the bridge sway as you traverse the span that reaches 746 feet above the ocean.
