The structure houses the Museo Histórico de Acapulco (Acapulco Historical Museum), with exhibits that tell the story of Acapulco from its role as a port in the conquest of the Americas to a center for local Catholic conversion campaigns and for exotic trade with the Orient.
With over 20 different beaches to choose from in the Acapulco area, sun worshipers will find plenty of sand and surf to meet their needs. Caleta Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Acapulco Bay. The gentle waves make this a perfect spot for an afternoon swim. La Condesa is famous for surfing and people watching. Pie de la Cuesta is another surfing beach, and is also a favorite for those who want to take a horseback ride while watching the fabulous Acapulco sunsets.

The statue of the virgin was placed there in 1958 in memory of a group of divers that lost their lives at the site.
